Interview With Robert Whitlow.

The other day I was privileged to interview legal thriller author, Robert Whitlow. He is one of the most well-known authors of inspirational legal novels. Please read this interview. He has some very interesting thoughts.

Thank you for being here today, Robert!
You are known as one of the best legal thriller writers in the Inspirational genre. When did you start writing novels?

1) I have been a lawyer since 1979. I began writing fiction in 1996, unless, of course, you count some of the early pleadings I filed in court!

When a reader is done with one of your books, what do you want them to remember?

2)
My hope is that readers are entertained by the story and encouraged by the spiritual message in my novels.

As a practicing attorney, do you find it helps in your writing?

3) Being a lawyer is especially helpful in writing dialogue. I’ve read hundreds of thousands of pages of deposition testimony and court transcripts and participated in thousands of court hearings during my career. Hearing and reading so much dialogue is a great benefit. It trains the ear.

Do you have any tips or thoughts for the aspiring legal thriller writer?

4) Lawyers who want to write fiction need to recognize the differences between crafting a novel and preparing a legal brief. A legal brief must be specific, clear, and repetitive. A novel is purposely ambiguous in order to maintain suspense and tension. A book that greatly helped me understand how to write a novel is Self Editing for Fiction Writers by Browne/King.

Do you have any other novels in the works right now?

5)
Currently, I’m writing a novel about a young lawyer who reluctantly returns to his home town where he uncovers a dark secret. Recently, we finished production of a movie adaptation of my novel, The Trial. The film stars Matthew Modine, Bob Gunton, and Robert Forster and will be released later this year. The movie version of my first novel, The List, is available on DVD.

And any last thoughts for your readers?

6) I love my readers! If it weren’t for readers I wouldn’t be a writer! I enjoy hearing from readers about ways the books have blessed them.

Please check out his website and if you haven't read one of his books yet, please pick one up. They are a great read!
Thanks for reading everyone:) Make sure you check back as I have another interview and giveaway tomorrow!!
