Interview With Delia Parr Plus 3 BOOK Giveaway!!

I have 2 author interviews today which means yes, 2 giveaways!! The first one is with Delia Parr. She is giving away her 3 book Candlewood Trilogy.

How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
-- I actually loved being a reader until 1989 when my sister challenged me to write my own books.
The next day, I sat down with pencil and paper and started a very long, but very blessed journey.
It took five years, but when I published my first book, I was determined to follow the journey for as
long as I was blessed to continue to write. Now, 18 books later, I'm still writing away and loving it!
I use the computer now, but only after I've written the first draft longhand --- still using a pencil and
a steno pad at the beach.

When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
-- I'd like my reader to think about something in the book that touched her heart. Maybe it was something
that helped heal a past hurt or prompted her to change something in her life or maybe she'll have her own thoughts and
feelings about an issue she's faced in her life confirmed. Since I'm a full-time history teacher and love connecting the past to the present,I try to add something that would make the reader say, "I never knew that!" But mostly, I'd like them to
come away with a greater love for God and realization of the many blessings we receive from Him.

Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
-- Hearts Awakening takes place on an island in the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. It's an isolated
place where two very good, but troubled people, my hero, Jackson, and heroine, Ellie, begin to heal and discover the power of love. In appearance, Ellie isn't the usual heroine. She's very plain, but she has the biggest heart and strongest faith of all my heroines, something Widower Jackson learns to value and love with all his heart. The setting is very unique, and the two children in the book, who are Jackson's, are quite a handful.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
--Between family responsibilities and my full-time job, plus writing in the summer, I don't have much time to travel.
When I do, I go to Mexico City, where my son lives with his family. I've been going there now for over three years,
and I love exploring the city and using my Spanish to make my way around. There's a very large park right in the middle
of the city where I like to go, and it's so tranquil that it's hard to remember that I'm in the largest city in the world.

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
--My parents died very young. They've been done now for over thirty years. I would just love to sit
down and have dinner with them, just the three of us. What a treat that would be!

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
-- I'd love to be at the next presidential inauguration. I've never been able to attend because I've been teaching, but once I retire, that's one of the things on my "bucket list." Personally, I'm hoping to be there when my grandchildren get married ... which is going to be a good while since they're both under two right now!

Do you have a favorite hobby?
--I love, love, love the beach, which is where I write every day during the summer. I try to get to the beach in time to see the sun come up, and I use the first half hour to walk and pray before starting my writing. Once I finish my writing for the day,
I love to walk the beach (along the western coast of Florida) ... for miles and miles and miles ... and watch the sun set. What a blessing to be able to do that. In fact, I'm hoping to retire there so I can enjoy the beach year round.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
-- I seem to be a latecomer to lots of things. For example, I didn't go to college to become a teacher until I was married with three children. I got my teaching certificate, and my first teaching job, when I was forty. I didn't become an author until I
was forty-two. I can't wait to see what I'll be doing when I retire from teaching in a few years! I know I'll be writing more books each year, but there will be something else that I'll add to my life --- I just don't know what that will be yet.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
-- Write what comes from your heart and join a writing group. Feedback will make you a better writer. In the end, however,
I truly believe that it is determination, hard work, and sheer persistence that will reward you with that first publishing contract.
Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it!

Any last thoughts for your readers?
--I want them to know how truly touched I am when they take the time to contact me to tell me they have enjoyed one of my books. They encourage me, challenge me to write good stories, and give me that added "nudge" to write when I'm struggling.

And how can they connect with you?
-- The best way is to visit my website (which is nearly finished being re-designed) at www.deliaparr.com or send me an email at delia@deliaparr.com.

Thank you so much Delia!!
