Interview With Leann Harris!! Plus Giveaway!

Hey everyone!! For our second interview we have Leann Harris. She is giving away her two last books to one of my blog readers:) You will be getting two books.

Thank you for being with us today, Leann!
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I've always had stories running around in my head. I only started to write after my youngest when to pre-school, then I gave in and wrote a story about a deaf girl in Colorado in 1876. I taught deaf kids and was raised in Denver.

Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
Second Chance Ranch is about a soldier/cowboy Zachary McClure who lost his leg in Iraq to a roadside bomb. When he gets back home to Albuquerque, his sister takes him to an equine therapy ranch. He doesn't expect to be able to ride again, but his love of horses overcomes his reluctance. Sophie Powell, another Iraq war veteran, runs the ranch. She was an Army medic and knows the value of equine therapy and its healing properties. But behind Sophie's smiles and cheerful attitude lurks a pain that Zach sees and understands. Together, they work to make the ranch a success and heal each other wounded hearts. The book will be out in Jan '11.

When a reader gets done with your books, what do you want them to come away with?
Several things. God's grace can overcome any obstacle. And I want people to know how beneficial equine therapy can be to both veterans and children with physical problems. A horse's gait is the closest to a human's. When you build the muscles sitting on the horse, the muscles have memory and it helps with walking.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I would love to go back to Scotland. I visited there in the mid-80's. There is a beautiful city there, Ayr, by the sea. It's on the northwest coast. I'd love to go back there and spend a summer, writing a book.

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. Churchill was a visionary, as well as Margaret Thatcher.

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I would go to Philadelphia 1776 and be in Constitution Hall when they signed the Declaration of Independence.
How neat would that have been?

Do you have a favorite hobby?
I love to garden. If I'm stuck when writing, I go outside and pull weed. It helps. You can check out pictures of my garden at my website www.leannharris.com

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
Several years ago, I had a brain aneurysm. I spent 3 months in intensive care. They didn't think I'd live, but God was gracious and I'm here.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Join a writer's group. There are several--RWA, ACFW, Mystery Writers of America. You need to be around other people who write. You learn from them and can have your questions answered.

Any last thoughts for your readers?
I write because I can't not write. God bless me with stories and I want to share them.

And how can they connect with you? visit either one of my websites, www.leannharris.com--leharris@swbell.net
or barbharrison.com --barb@barbharrison.com

I have to tell you, I am with Leann on her vacation spot. I love Ireland and Scotland!! I have never been there but would love to go there sometime in my life. Kind of something to work towards I guess:D

What beautiful, colorful flowers on your blog. They brightened my day. I'm a follower and would love to be considered for the book giveaway. I knitted a bunch of helmet liners for the soldiers this winter and my heart goes out to them. My dad was born in Scotland and I would love to go back there, beautiful countryside and lots of heather. Thank you Leann for the interview.

Thanks for all the comments about the flowers. My husband was the photographer.

My heart has always been in the men and women in the military. My book in January is dedicated to them and the work they do.
