Interview with Nancy Mehl and Book Giveaway!!

For our author interview today we have Nancy Mehl, author of Simple Secrets. And again readers, we have a book giveaway with it:) She is giving away a copy of Simple Secrets.

I know you have published several books now. When did you decide to become an author?

I began to really think seriously about writing when I was in my forties. I’d spent my life “trying” many things, but I never felt as if I’d found that one thing I was called to do. I heard a teacher point out that we need to go back to our childhood and look at what we did naturally – that this would help us to see what God had gifted us to do. My look back showed one thing – reading and writing. When I first started trying to write a novel, I hadn’t actually decided to be a writer – I just wanted to see if it might be the thing I was supposed to do. It took several years before I was certain I was on the right track.

Are you a regimented writer? Do you have a special place where you go to write?
I have an upstairs office. I like to write there. It has windows on three sides so I can look outside. But other times I like to be downstairs so I'll write on my laptop. I do have a writing schedule. I am very regimented when it comes to my writing time.

Is there someone you would have loved to meet? Either historical or future?

Well, of course as a Christian I have to say Jesus. I know Him now, but the idea of actually looking into His face brings tears to my eyes. Historically, I guess I'd have to say Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe or G. K. Chesterton.

What place would you love to visit?

I have two places on the top of my list. Alaska would be first. I'd love to take an Alaskan cruise. Second on my list would be Scotland. What a beautiful place!

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know? A secret wish or a secret hobby:)

I'm sorry, but that's a secret. LOL! Just kidding. Well, I actually solved a real murder once. I figured out that a certain couple may have killed a well-known Wichita citizen. I told a friend of mine who worked as a landlord where this couple lived that she needed to call the police. It took some convincing, but she finally did. The police came and found the murder weapon among their things. They went to prison. I guess my secret wish is to be a real detective.

Is there an event you would love to be at? Either in the past or even a future event?
Well, I don't want to miss the rapture!!! LOL! Hmmmm. This might sound silly, but I wish I could have seen the Beatles in a live concert.

Can you tell us a little about this book?

“Simple Secrets” is the story of Gracie Temple, a graphic designer who lives and works in Wichita, Kansas. A phone call comes from her father, telling her the uncle she never met has died. Benjamin Temple lived an Old Order Mennonite life in the small town of Harmony, Kansas. He’s left all his property to her. Gracie goes to Harmony with the intent of selling his house and property and bringing home family heirlooms. But once she reaches Harmony, she discovers he’s left her something else as well. A terrible secret – a family legacy that could bring destruction to the people she loves. She will have to decide what to do with Benjamin’s terrible secret.

Do you have any other works in the making?

Yes, as I said, "Simple Deceit." I also have another series debuting this year. My Curl Up and Dye mystery series kicks off with “Missing Mabel.” It comes out in August, followed by “Blown Away.” After that, I will write the third book in that series. I really hope mystery fans will give this series a chance. I really love this quirky, fun series.

And any last thoughts for your readers? Also, where can readers connect with you?
Okay. BUY MY BOOKS! LOL! Seriously, I love to hear from readers, and I try to answer everyone who contacts me. They can email me at nancymehlbooks@hotmail.com. They can also contact me through my blog at: www.nancymehl.blogspot.com.

I'd say Ted Dekker is a great writer. He writes more suspense than mystery but they are all good!

I like the Rabbi Small series ("Friday the Rabbi Slept Late" was the first), but I can't remember the author's name right now.

And I wanted to say: Hi Nancy! I read some of your old posts on the Absolute Write forums and remember you from there.

Lynn Bulock wrote a series of books (maybe three?) for Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense line about a woman named Gracie Lee Harris. I really liked them. Thanks for the chance to win.

First of all, I have to say that Alaska and Scotland are also at the top of my list to visit one day. Probably won't happen in this life, but I can always dream.

Two of my favorite inspirational mystery writers are Randy Singer and James Scott Bell. Oh . . . and Davis Bunn.

I would love to read Simple Secrets, and I also look forward to the Curl Up and Dye series coming soon.
