Readers, today we have with us, Robin Lee Hatcher, author of the new book, Matter of Character. I have read many of her books and i really enjoyed them. So it was a real pleasure to be able to interview her. There is also a blessing for one of my blog readers, as she has offered to give one of you a copy of the new book!!
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I was a teller of stories and a compulsive scribbler from an early age, but it wasn't until I was 29 that I began writing my first novel and realized this was what I wanted to do from then on.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
I want them to be satisfied but to also wish the book hadn't ended because they don't want to let go of the characters just yet.
Can you tell me a little bit about your book?
Here's the back cover blurb for A MATTER OF CHARACTER which I think says it best:
It's 1918, and Daphne McKinley, heiress to a small fortune, has found contentment in the town of Bethlehem Springs. But Daphne has a secret. A series of dime novels loosely based on local lore and featuring a nefarious villain known as Rawhide Rick has enjoyed modest popularity among readers. Nobody in Bethlehem Springs knows the man behind the stories … except Daphne. When newspaperman Joshua Crawford comes to town searching for the man who sullied the good name of his grandfather, Daphne finds herself at a crossroads, reassessing the power of her words, re-thinking how best to honor her gifts, and reconsidering what she wants out of life.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I've always wanted to take four to six weeks (or longer) and visit the countries of my origin: Sweden, Ireland, and England. That would be my dream working vacation. I say working because if I made such a trip, I would definitely be researching like crazy.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
You didn't say living or dead, so I'll choose one of each. My first choice would be Abraham Lincoln, the president I most admire. And then, just for fun, Carrie Underwood, my favorite winner of American Idol.
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
Wow! That's a hard one to answer. Historically, I could start a list that would never end. I think I'll go with something biblical and choose to be among the shepherds when the angels announced the birth of Jesus and the shepherds went to go see God's miracle for themselves.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
Mostly, I play with my dog Poppet, but I don't think she counts as a hobby. She's more like a kid. Besides reading and watching movies, I enjoy knitting and I'm getting back into painting with acrylics, something I did a lot of many years ago.
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I'm such an open book, probably not. If someone wants to find out more about me, they can learn most everything on my web site (http://www.robinleehatcher.com) and my blog (http://robinlee.typepad.com).
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
The two most important things an aspiring writer can do is read, read, read (everything!) and write, write, write (if you write one page per day, you'll have a 365 page novel at the end of one year).
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I'm hard at work on my next historical romance (which will mostly likely release in the fall of 2011). No title to share yet, so that will have to satisfy for now.
And how can they connect with you?
Readers can contact me through my web site (mentioned above), and they can also find me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Robin-Lee-Hatcher-Novelist/48662178098?ref=mf
