Interview With Stephen Bly and Book Giveaway!!

Well, for an author interview today, we have Stephen Bly. He is a well-known author of western books. My younger brother likes to read his Brannon series:)
He has offered to give one of my readers his new book, A Cowboy For A Rainy Afternoon.

Thank you for being with us today, !
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
Since one day in December, 1976, when I received two checks in the mail for articles that my wife, Janet, submitted on my behalf..from two different magazine editors. Several years later she nudged me to attempt a book proposal, after she began attending Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference. My very first published book was nonfiction, Radical Discipleship, by Moody Press, 1981.

Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?

Here's the blurb on my newest release, Cowboy For A Rainy Afternoon: A 10-year-old boy. Six old cowboys. A '49 Plymouth with open trunk. A damsel in distress. All the fixings for adventure in 1954 Albuquerque. Maybe you weren't born 100 years too late.

I believe this is a great story for western fiction fans of all ages. Both guys and gals will enjoy the cross, generational drama..and feel like they're reading this while sitting in a worn, brown leather divan in the lobby of the Matador Hotel in Albuquerque.

When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?

That my story and the interaction of the characters has in some way prepared his or her heart to receive spiritual truth. That message can be different for each book, every reader. Along the way, I hope I've also entertained them...made them laugh, made them tear up a bit.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monum
ent, overseas, etc?
One place I've never gotten to that I always wanted to visit: Yellowknife, Canada. It's on the edge of the Arctic, located on the shores of the beautiful Great Slave Lake, in the heart of the wilderness, and home to about 20,000 people. It's known for it's midnight sun, aurora borealis and an unusual blend of northern culture. I've heard it also has an interesting golf course.

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
My mom and dad. I'd like to bring them up to date on what's happening in my life and with my family. What a great reunion we have to look forward to.

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?

I would love to land on the moon and hit a golf ball into a crater or over some gorge. That would make a fun mark to leave.

Do you have a favorite hobby?

I collect antique Winchesters, just like the ones my historical characters carry and shoot.

Is ther
e something about you most people wouldn't know?
My very favorite Christian devotional writer is Janet Chester Bly.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?

Get thee to at least one writer's conference per year...to take the classes, to get a feel for the real world of publishing today, to meet editors, publishers, and become friends with other writers. The resources are invaluable and well worth the cost.

Any last thoughts for your readers?

No matter what sort of ups and downs, success or failure, comes with the publishing of many books...to me, all of it is an 'added thing,' not the main importance of life. That principle comes from my life verse: "seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).

And how can they connect with you?

Check out my website.

Thank you so much for allowing me to interview you!!

The only golf I've ever played is miniature golf, which I don't mind, so maybe I'd like 'real' golf:)
