My Interview with Laurie Alice Eakes & Book Giveaway!

Today we have Laurie Alice Eakes with us. She has offered to give one of my readers a copy of her newest book, The Glassblower.

Thank you for being with us today Laurie Alice!! I know you have always been interested in writing, but when did you sit down to start your first novel?

When I was twelve. I had an idea, but executing it proved a bit more than I'd anticipated, and when my older sister found it and made fun of it in front of her friends, I got a bit discouraged for a number of years. I did dabble in writing for a long time, though, but had a problem with finishing works.

Are you a regimented writer? Or do you write when you get the time?

I'm pretty regimented. Try to be at my desk working by 9:00 in the morning, which is after making breakfast and lunches, feeding animals, getting ready myself, etc. It also includes my quiet time and catching up on Facebook. Then I write until Noon, get lunch, go outside for a while, then it's back to work from about 1:00-5:30 or 6:00.

What one place would you love to visit? Overseas, a vacation spot, historical monument, etc?

I really want to go to Cornwall or to Scotland. Not sure which more. I've been overseas a few times, but never made it to those places.
Who would you love to meet? Either historical or future?

Answering this question is always difficult for me. Probably one of the strong and ahead of her time ladies from the eighteenth century, women on whom I base my characters.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know? A funny hobby, secret wish, etc?

I always wanted to be a rockstar. My voice is more suited to folk or classical music though.

What is the most important thing to you in writing novels? What do you most want to get across to the reader?

My books hold a strong theme of forgiveness, not just God forgiving us, but forgiving one another and forgiving oneself. The bottom line message seems to be the overwhelming power of God's love.

Can you tell us a little about this series?

The Glassblower, The Heiress, and The Newcomer are all set in New Jersey beginning in 1809, 1858, and 1899 respectively. The first two follow the Grassick family and the third is tied but by a blown glass goldfinch, not people quite so strongly. The series starts with Colin, who comes from Scotland to New Jersey to become a master glassblower there, where he can make more money and bring his family over for a better life. He falls in love with the boss's daughter, but her father has other plans for her, plans that could get Colin killed.

In The Heiress, Colin's grandson Daire makes some foolish decisions and sells the goldfinch to a young lady with a new inheritance. Then he learns the goldfinch holds a family secret formula and without it the Grassick glassworks will be destroyed. When he goes to get the goldfinch back, the girl can't find it in her chaotic family household. So they set out to find it.

Talking about the third book, which isn't out yet, rather gives away the ending of the second one. I can say that it takes place on Cape May, NJ, when it was the height of upper middle class vacation spot.

And any last thoughts for your readers?

My books are romances set in a historical setting, and I use the circumstances of relationships and the time period to portray God's everlasting promises to us.

How can your readers connect with you?

My web site is being revamped, but I've been on so many deadlines I haven't had time to work on it. So my blog is the best place to keep up with me.
