Howdy ya'll,
Today I have two author interviews. The one does not have a giveaway. But this one does!
Kaye Dacus is here today!! She has alos offered to give to one of my blog readers, their choice of her new books. She tells a little bit about them below. So one winner gets their choice of those books.
Thank you for being with us today, Kaye!!! How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I've been writing since my early teens, but really started focusing on preparing myself for publication in my late twenties/early thirties.
Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
I have two books that have just released:
Ransome's Crossing is the second book in my historical romance series, The Ransome Trilogy, from Harvest House Publishers. It picks up right where Ransome's Honor left off and follows our characters on their Atlantic crossing toward Jamaica. Young Charlotte Ransome is determined to get to her secret fiancé in Jamaica, so she decides to disguise herself as a midshipman aboard one of the ships in the convoy her brother, William Ransome, is leading to the Caribbean. Charlotte will soon discover that living and working aboard a Royal Navy ship and keeping her identity secret is easy, compared to trying not to lose her heart to the dashing young captain Ned Cochrane.
Love Remains is the first book in a new contemporary romance series with Barbour Publishing, The Matchmakers. Nashville native Bobby Patterson has just returned home after many years away to take a position with the Tennessee Criminal Investigations Unit. His new job: lead a task force investigating potential real estate fraud connected with the Middle Tennessee Historic Preservation Commission. Zarah Mitchell, who’s worked at the Commission for more than a decade, is about to face a piece of history that could ruin the life she’s built in Nashville: Bobby Patterson—her first love and the reason her father kicked her out fourteen years ago. When Bobby realizes Zarah is part of his investigation, he is tempted to use his grandmother’s not-so-subtle setups as a way to learn if Zarah is involved in the fraud. Zarah, at her grandmother’s suggestion, tries to put the pain from the past aside to see if any love remains between her and Bobby. But when she learns he’s been investigating her, will she be be able to forgive him a second time?
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
I write to entertain, most of all, so I want my readers to come away with a smile on their face and hope in their heart that good things can happen if we listen to God and trust Him to take care of things.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I have a big birthday coming up in 2011, and I'd really like to go back to New Mexico, where I grew up, and spend some time there, refamiliarizing myself with the place where I spent my childhood as well as indulging in all of my favorite foods!
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
I love talking with other writers, so if I could choose anyone, living or dead, it would have to be Elizabeth Gaskell and Charles Dickens. Mostly because I'm starting to think about my next historical romance series, which will be set in the early Victorian era in England. So I'd love to pick their brains about their era---and about their writing.
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I'm currently obsessed with Prince Albert's Great Exhibition of 1851, so I think if I could travel in time to any historic event, it would be for the opening of the Crystal Palace. Of course, I'd want to be brainwashed so that I don't know about the advances we've made in the 150 years since then so that I could walk around in awe and wonder at all of the fantastical and inventive objects on display.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I don't know if it's considered a hobby or just laziness, but I love watching movies---action films and British costume dramas.
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
It usually comes as a surprise to most people that I'm not married---and not only that, but I've never had a boyfriend or been kissed.
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
The best pieces of advice I can give are:
1. Above all else, finish your first draft.
2. Start something new---and finish it, too.
3. Remember, story trumps craft. You must have a good story in order to be a good writer.
4. Write every day.
5. Learn to let go.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I give this advice to single women all the time, but it applies to everyone. Life is short. Don't put off pursuing your dreams for a "some day" that may never come.
And how can they connect with you?
I love connecting with readers. You can find me online at http://kayedacus.com, http://www.facebook.com/kayedacus, and http://twitter.com/kayedacus
Bio:
Kaye Dacus is the author of humorous, hope-filled contemporary and historical romances with Barbour Publishing and Harvest House Publishers. She holds a Master of Arts in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University, is a former Vice President of American Christian Fiction Writers, and currently serves as President of Middle Tennessee Christian Writers. She loves action movies and British costume dramas; and when she’s not writing, she enjoys knitting scarves and “lap blankets” (she’s a master of the straight-line knit and purl stitches!). Kaye lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and even though she writes romance novels, she is not afraid to admit that she’s never been kissed.

I'd love a copy of one of your books, Kaye!I'm wondering if you find it difficult to write for two publishers and keep up with your book contracts?
