Hey everyone!! Today I have an author who writes wonderful books. I really liked her first one and am hoping to get a copy of this one somewhere. Margaret has offered to give one of my readers a copy of this book, A Suitor For Jenny.
Thank you for being with us today, Margaret!
Thank you so much for having me!
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I’ve wanted to be a writer all my life. I wrote my first novel in 5th grade—a mystery with no ending. Of course no one took me seriously as a child, probably because I failed 8th grade English. I still don’t know how to diagram a sentence.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
I hope that readers cheer for Jenny and come away with a renewed belief in the power of faith, love and God’s guiding light.
Can you tell me a little bit about your book?
A Suitor For Jenny is the 2nd book in my Rocky Creek series. Here’s a short blurb:
When looking for a husband, it's best to go where the odds are in your favor.
And that would be Rocky Creek, Texas, 1880. But Jenny Higgins's plan to find husbands for her two sisters hits a snag when enthusiastic applicants fail to meet her stringent requirements.
Rejecting her sisters' choices for mates and riding herd on her growing feelings for Marshal Rhett Armstrong, she refuses to give up.
Jenny thinks choosing a husband is not a job for the heart. It'll take one strong and handsome marshal to convince her otherwise.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I’m so fortunate that I’ve able to travel quite a bit. I’ve been to all 50 states and at least 15 countries. The places I still want to visit are Italy and Australia.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
I’d rather have dinner with family and friends than anyone else. But if I had to choose strangers I would have to say Queen Elizabeth and a handsome blacksmith.
Queen Elizabeth because she has known something like 11 or 12 prime ministers and 12 U.S. presidents. That makes her pretty special. A handsome blacksmith is the hero in my next book so having dinner with one would certainly be inspirational—or at the very least allow me to ask questions.
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I’m not much of a futurist so I’d have to say historical—but not too far back. I do like my modern conveniences. I’ve always had an affinity for the roaring 20’s (before the stock market crashed). It would be fun to travel back to August 26, 1920 when the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution became law, and women could finally vote. How would I have celebrated? I would have jumped up on the table in my red flapper and danced the Charleston. Now that’s what I call the bees knees.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
Traveling and reading are what I like to do best. We really do enjoy our RV. I play at the piano, love to shop and spend time with friends and family.
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I’ve been told that I’m a person of many contradictions. Let’s see if you agree: In school I failed English and hated history but grew up to write historical novels. I don’t like to cook but raised a chef. Can’t swim but taught all my children how to swim. The list goes on and on.
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Enjoy the journey. Being published comes with its own challenges, so you really have to enjoy each step of the way or you won’t survive. Surround yourself with a support group and celebrate every success. Celebrate when you finish a chapter, enter a contest ,pop a query in the mail or sign up for a writing workshop. This is what kept me going the five years it took me to sell my first book, and it will keep you going, too.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I just want to thank my readers for the many kind cards and letters about A Lady Like Sarah. She seemed to strike a chord with many of you and I do appreciate hearing from you.

Good interview. I find it interesting that so many writers started when they were in elementary and found they had a love of writing young.
when I relax do I want to read or write, hmm. Depends on how I want relax, they both help me escape. One into someone elses created world. the other into mine. If I want to get tangled up without having to worry about my characters, I read someone else's book.
I also am a follower, and I put a link on facebook
