I received a copy of this book, The Christmas Gift by R. William Bennett for review. I also have a copy for giveaway.
This is a book that is not Christian but tells a good moral story and I enjoyed reading it. And have your tissues handy when you read this book:) This tells the story of a boy, Scott, who meets a bully at the new school where he just moved. Ben is never kind to anyone. One day the bully harasses him, and he gets mad and yells at him, telling him the truth but not in kindness. He sees that this hurt Ben and goes to apologize. He finds out that Ben has an illness that ultimately kills him. But in the meantime the two boys become best of friends. I really liked that this book shows how boys can still be strong and yet forgiving and compassionate. I still think a boy who is ill can be polite to people and not turn into a bully, but I understand what the author is trying to get across. The end of this book was very good. It shows how friendships can help others and ourselves. Definitely a keeper.
Readers, I have a copy of this book to give away. This is a HB w/DJ. If you want to purchase it for yourself, please check this out on Amazon.

The only bullies I met were in school when I was too cowed down to do anything about it!

I have met a bully - I was the bully. We had a family from Switzerland move to my small town when I was 9 yrs old and I and all my friends teased and bullied the girls because they had braids and "funny" looking clothes and talked weird. I am extremely embarrassed to have been that person but I did stop as I became a teenager and became bullied myself. It was not fun and I so regret what I did as a child.

Met several bullies while in school. I usually argued with them until I cried. Not a good response I know.

I was SO shy in school, so my response to bullies was to just ignore them (or try).

I remember in elementary school the older kids were trying to kick the younger kids off of the baseball field. I put their ball in my shirt until they left the younger kids alone.

I have never been bullied thankfully so I didn't have that experience growing up. Although I know it is an issue that many people face.

I backed off in the face of bullies. To this day.

My oldest daughter Tai was around 9 or so when the storekeeper where her bus stop was told me that a boy kept hitting her every day while she waited for the bus. I found out from her who he was and where he lived. I paid his mom a visit, and let's just say that I can see why HE acted like such a jerk. When she came home bleeding from a cut in her head where he had pushed her down on the ground where there was an end of a broken off sign still sticking out of the ground, well, I decided to fight fire with fire. My nephews were a year and two years older than my daughter, and their school started later than hers did .. so ... well, I waited down the street with my car and they put the fear of retribution into the boy. They didn't hit him, but they let him know that the choice was his and to leave their cousin alone. That was the end of that!

I met bullies in junior high and high school. Other girls stood up for me and my mother told the principal. Actually a few years later, the bully apologized to me. Will wonders never cease.

the best way to deal with a bully is to either ignore them and/or be civil or even kind to them when you aren't ignoring them. it will either confuse or surprise them. ;)

I have been around bullies before and I just stood up to them to let them know I wasn't intimidated by them. It usually worked, though not always.
