My Thoughts of Texas Roads by Cathy Bryant.

In this past month I did an interview and giveaway with Cathy Bryant, author of Texas Roads. I was sent a copy of this book to review as well. Below are my thoughts on it. It does not contain any spoilers:)

I am always kind of scared to read a debut novel. To me, authors always get better after a few books and normally the first book is kind of plain and it often doesn't flow.

I was pleasantly surprised with this one:) The dialogue was great, the characters were very likeable and the book flowed!! I was very drawn into the book and liked it. I am also very picky on what I read as far as what is in them and the Gospel message. This one passed the test. I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. The only thing I wish was not in the book was something in a relationship. I don't want to spoil it as this is one of the mysteries surrounding the young lady so I won't go into detail. And Cathy does a great job not going into detail! To me the book was a good read. Will definitely watch for the next one in the series:) Way to go Cathy!
I was provided with a review copy of this book from Cathy. Thank you!!

Come Win a Father''s Day Gift Basket!!

I was recently sent a package from Gourmet Gift Baskets. It was their Father's Day Golf Gift Basket. I will tell you a little about it and then give you a way that you can enter to win one for yourself!

I was very impressed with this basket. It really wasn't a basket but I will call it that:) When I opened it I found out it was really a cooler-tote bag! Very nice!! So not only do you get the treats and the golf items but you get a cooler, shaped like a golf club bag, that you can use all the time. That was my favorite item out of the whole package:)

Now my Dad's favorite was the Late July Organic Chocolate Cookies. When the package came in and I showed it to him, he immediately asked if there was anything he could eat:) I had thought about keeping it for Father's Day but then I couldn't write up the review and you all wouldn't get the chance at winning one yourself. So I went through all the treats and let him have his pick. And he went straight for the chocolate:) Let me tell you, ladies, he said these were the best chocolate cookies he had ever had!! They are the sandwich type with frosting in the middle like Oreo's. He loved them!! I am going to have to look and see if I can find them anywhere.

My favorite as far as the treats were the Cheddar Cheese Biscuits. They are small crackers almost but they taste real good. There was also a golf mug in this basket. It seems real sturdy and I am sure will come in real handy for coffee. The pop-top water bottle was great too. This also came with 3 golf balls and golf tees. I am telling you, this came with everything but the golf clubs and the golf cart!! Just kidding but it is a very nice basket. I am sure you would love to win one for your Father. So look below for the directions on how to win one:)

Gourmet Gift Baskets would love to give away one of these baskets to one of my blog readers. Now here is the mandatory entry-You have to go over to Gourmet Gift Baskets on Facebook and become a fan, comment on their wall with your favorite item in their store, then come back and comment to me that you did this. Talk about an easy way! There are no extra entries on this one. Just the one entry.

OPEN TO US AND CANADA!!!

This giveaway will end 6/7. That way there is enough time for you to get the basket in for Father's Day. Winner will be chosen by Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond before another winner will be chosen. Thanks for entering everyone!!

My Review of Almost Forever by Deborah Raney!

Deb Raney delivers an emotion-packed, gripping story with the creation of Bryn.

A firefighter's wife, Bryn thinks she knows more than most just how dangerous fire can be. Yet when it takes the life of her husband and four other firefighters, Bryn sees fire for the thief it truly is.

From their mutual despair, Bryn and another firefighter's surviving spouse form a close friendship. As the relationship begins to blossom into more, though, the thief comes again and Bryn must face the question: what caused the fire that stole her husband's life?
About Deborah Raney
Deborah Raney
Deb Raney
The award-winning, best-selling author of over twenty novels, Deborah Raney always delivers poignant stories of what it means to wrestle with the realities of a world in chaos...and emerge triumphant.

Her books have received the RITA Award, HOLT Medallion, National Readers' Choice Award, Silver Angel, and have twice been Christy Award finalists. Her novel, A Vow To Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title.

My Thoughts-I have read one other book by Deborah Raney. It was a tear-jerker!! So I don't know why I thought this one would be any different. Does this lady know how to write!! I am reminded of Karen Kingsbury when I read her books. To me an author does a great job, when they can make you cry. Not saying that is all the book should be about but that is a good author.

I can't wait for the next book. I know, it will make me cry too:) Oh well. Sometimes you just have to see what happens. Please pick up a copy of this book at your local bookstore. You won't regret it!

I was given a complimetary copy of this book for review. I received no monetary compensation. All thoughts are 100% mine. Thank you GRPR!!

Interview With Brian Edwards.

I love to read Christian books. As I am sure everyone knows:) Today we have an author of non-fiction Christian books. He has traveled world-wide and written numerous titles. Below is the interview. There is no giveaway but please don't just pass it by.

Thank you for being with us today, Brian!
Can you tell me a little bit about your ministry?
For 29 years I was pastor of Hook Evangelical Church in Surbiton, Surrey . Since my wife died in 1998 I have a ministry of writing, editing ( edit the Day One Travel Guide series), lecturing at conferences and preaching most Sundays.

When a reader gets done with your books, what do you want them to come away with?
I was once asked whether I enjoyed theology since many of my books deal with this. I replied that I loved theology only in so far as it makes my God bigger in my understanding. I would like all who read my books to put the book down with a greater appreciation of the true God and his magnificent grace.

Can you tell me a little bit about your most recent book?
My most recent book is not yet published. It is called Saul and Sons… and deals with the life of Saul, Jonathan and Mephibosheth. It plays out the dynasty of Israel ’s first king. Saul is a tragic figure, one of the saddest in the Bible; so much going for him at the start and such a miserable downward spiral that ends on the blood soaked battlefield at Gilboa with his sons slain beside him. Jonathan is tragic for a different reason; he is a wonderful example of true friendship and loyalty betrayed by a godless parent. And Mephibosheth is a chip off the old block; just like his dad though with a physical disability to contend with. Much to learn with all of them – and that is why they are in the Bible according to Romans 15:4.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
Not really, I’m a boring homing bird and would not bother if I never passed through another airport. My international travel is because that is what God wants me to do, not what I would naturally choose.

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
I have no wish to dine with any living celebrities! So, the first is obviously the Lord himself and the second is my wife – both are in Glory now and I will dine with both one day!

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
Since I love history, there are so many. I would like to have been with Moses as Israel crossed the sea on dry land, or with the disciples when Jesus came to them on Galilee, then I could tell the critics ‘ I was there, and it really happened that way!’

Do you have a favorite hobby?
Lots. I love gardening, cruising the inland waterways, hill walking, natural history and especially bird watching and photographing wild flowers – but I have very limited time to enjoy any of them to the full. Still, there will be plenty of time in the new heavens and new earth.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
Yes. Some people think that because I have written twenty books on a variety of subjects (theology, biography, revival, biblical commentary, apologetics), I must be an academic who loves study. Neither is true. Study is hard graft for me, I have an atrocious memory, and I am naturally an outdoors person. Those who know me well know all this. But I really don’t pretend to be anything that I am not.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
It’s tough getting into print now because there are so many (too many?) books pouring off the Christian presses each year. To preachers I would say: when your members tell you what a wonderful series on the book of Hezekiah you have just preached, don’t be fooled into thinking you can send your notes off to a publisher. There is a world of difference between a sermon series and a book. Publishers will always prefer an outline of the book plus one or two polished chapters to decide on. It’s no good sending something with the rider: ‘I still have a lot more work to do on this’ – they can see that for themselves but it does not tell them how well you can write. Be aware that writing is very hard work and if you simply want your name on the book shelf, forget it — after the first book the bubble bursts.

Any last thoughts for your readers?
Don’t simply read books. Learn from them and apply them. And above all, read those that will help you to grow in your understanding of the Bible and your God.

And how can they connect with you?
I have a web site hosted by one of my sons (www.brianedwards.org.uk) and I can be contacted through that. I always reply to emails ( except those begging for free books!), but since I get a lot of emails, my reply may not always be a long one.

Please check out his website. He has books for adults and for children so are you looking for that gift for a child or for maybe Father's day? Check out Brian Edward's books. Your husband just might like his books!!

Interview With Vickie McDonough!! And Book Giveaway!

Today we have with us the author of 23 books! That is a lot, people:) Vickie McDonough, author of the new book, The Anonymous Bride is here today and she has offered to give away a copy of any book off her site!!

Thank you for being with us today, Vickie! How long have you known you wanted to be an author?

Actually, I never considered being an author before I started writing. I've always loved to read, but way back in school I hated writing. Then about ten years ago a story started running through my mind like a movie. It got so bad that it was severely affecting my sleep. I finally decided to write it down in hopes that it would go away and leave me alone. Well, as soon as I finished that story, here came another one. By the time I finished my second book, I began wondering if God was trying to get my attention. I prayed hard and talked
with my husband, who encouraged me to go for it, so I jumped in with both feet and started learning all I could about the craft of writing. It shocks me more than anyone to know I've sold 23 books in such a short time. I've met some fabulous people, and it's been an amazing journey, so far.

When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?

I hope that they will miss my characters like they'd miss a good friend who moved away and look forward to reading the book again or picking up the sequel. Also, I hope I've encouraged them some way in their faith journey.

Can you tell me a little bit about your book?

The Anonymous Bride is the first book in my Texas Boardinghouse Brides Series. It's the story of a Texas town marshal who suddenly has three mail-order brides arrive, each expecting to marry him. But he never ordered a bride. A contest is held to see which gal would make him the best wife, but instead of three entries, there's also a fourth-an anonymous entry. Speculation runs rampant as everyone tries to figure out who the mystery bride is, while the marshal must decide whether to marry or head for the hills.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?

Yes!! I have a goal of visiting all 50 states. So far I've been to 35, I think. I would also love to visit Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia.

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?

Ugh! These kinds of questions are sooo hard. I really don't know. I'd have to think long and hard about it. My first thought was Harrison Ford:) But I'd so love to meet some people who'd lived in the late 1880's, who could talk about what life was like then. I wish I'd talked to my Grandma about her life as a child before she died, but I was just a kid back when she was still alive. She was born back in 1876. Kind of mind-boggling, isn't it?

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?

I'd like to have ridden in one of the Oklahoma land rushes. I can't imagine the excitement of that day or how high hopes were riding for the thousands of people who dreamed of getting free land and a fresh start. Remember that thrilling scene from Far and Away with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, racing for their land? I know several people whose families still live on the land they won during the land rushes.

Do you have a favorite hobby?

I used to do counted cross stitch. I have a farm scene that is huge and took nearly a year of steady work to complete it. Now I mostly read in my free time or watch movies. What I love most though is traveling. Whether it's a research trip or a vacation, I love getting away from home and seeing places I haven't seen before.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?

I lived on a Kibbutz in Israel for a year:)

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?

Learn your craft and have lots of patience. It can take years to get published. Keep writing and polishing your story, but don't be afraid to submit it to a publisher. Once you finish a book and send it in, start another one right away. Another thing is to read lots of books in the genre you write.

Any last thoughts for your readers?

I've just finished the final edits on Second Chance Brides, the sequel to The Anonymous Bride. It releases Sept. 1st. It continues the tale of two boardinghouse brides who are left after the marshal picks the woman he'll marry. The third book in the series, Finally A Bride, releases April 1, 2011. It is set 10 years from from the last book and tells the story of Jack aka Jacqueline, who is now grown up. Have no fears, she hasn't changed a lot. She still gets in plenty of predicaments. There will also be a character or two from the past who returns to Lookout.

And how can they connect with you?

Proactive Review!!

I have some problems with acne. Not too bad but sometimes it gets bad. That is why I was overjoyed when Proactive sent me some products to review. They have new product enhanced with exclusive new micro-crystal benzoyl peroxide and wanted to get some bloggers to review their products. I was sent basically the whole system. The cleanser, toner, lotion and mask.

I have tried Proactive one other time and didn't really care for it. It didn't seem to work that great on me. But I was willing to try it again! And it worked!!! I really liked it. I used the cleanser every morning when I showered and then I used the toner and lotion. Then in the evening I just rinsed my face with warm water and put on the toner and lotion again. I noticed that my face was not as oily the next day. I also used the mask twice a week. But someone told me that you can also use it as a spot treatment. I had never tried it like that before so I did this time. And it really seemed to work. If I noticed a spot starting to come up, I put the mask on it and left it on. 8 times out of 10, the spot was gone by the next morning. I love it!

The only negative thing I noticed was that the acne spots seemed to take longer to heal. Normally the scar is gone within a couple days but with this it is taking longer. A week or 2 at times. I am not sure why or if it is normal on other people. I just thought I should mention it is doing that on me.

If you have severe problems with acne, I would definitely try Proactive. It may be a little expensive but it worked on me. Please try it:)

I received complimentary products to review. I was given no monetary compensation for my review. I also received this review partly from The Product Review Place.

My Review of Morning For Dove by Martha Rogers

Race. Culture. They can unite. They often divide.

When Luke Anderson falls for Dove Morris, he doesn't anticipate the prejudice he'll face from his own family. Dove's skin, such a beautiful reflection of her Native American heritage, serves as a point of contention between Luke and his parents. Will a literal trial by fire confirm Luke's love, or burn it away?

About Martha Rogers
Sophomore Novelist, Long-time Believer
Martha Rogers
Martha Rogers placed her faith in Jesus Christ 65 years ago. He has seen her through her step-father's sexually abusive behavior toward her sister and brother, her own breast cancer, two mastectomies, two miscarriages, her husband's heart attack, her grandson's cystic fibrosis, and the deaths of her parents. She holds a Master's degree in education and enjoyed a 36-year teaching career. To say she's an inspiration to those of us trying to walk a faithful path is a gross understatement.

My thoughts-This is a first time author for me. I have never read any of her books and so I plunged right into the second book:) I did not read the first book in this series.

The first thing I noticed was the description in it. Martha had obviously done her research of the Oklahoma area and the history that went on in that period. I love when an author has done her digging!!

I was able to get right into the book without having read the first one. Which to me is a good thing. I enjoy reading series but if I can jump into a book in the middle without feeling confused that is the best thing.

If you enjoy historical fiction books, this is one you will want to pick up. I am going to be watching for Martha's next book in the series:)

I was provided a copy of this book for review. I was given no monetary compensation.

Tiffany Stockton's Thoughts and Book Giveaway!

Readers, today we have with us Tiffany Stockton. She has offered to giveaway a copy of her book, Liberty's Promise.

Thank you for being with us today, Tiffany!
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing and telling stories since I was a child, but my first publication happened at age 16, and I began pursuing a professional career after college.

Are you a regimented writer? Or do you just write when you get the time? :)
I used to have a daily schedule and a set time, but now, with a toddler, husband and household duties, I have resorted to a daily word count whenever I can fit in the writing time. Sometimes it's in the wee hours of the morning or late at night, but usually, it occurs during naptime.

What do you want readers to come away with when they are done reading your books?
I would love to see them inspired by the stories they read and encouraged in their daily walk with God, to know that He is always there and will never leave or forsake us, no matter how difficult life may get.

Do you have a place you have always wanted to visit? A historical monument, overseas, vacation spot, etc?
Well, considering I have now visited 41 of the 50 states in the US, as well as 4 countries, what's left is rather narrow. Smile emoticon But Hawaii and Alaska would be nice, as would Europe, especially Rome, London, Scotland and Ireland.

If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be? Historical or future?
I would love to meet Mary, the mother of Jesus, to talk with her about the experience of carrying the Son of God and raising Him to fulfill His ministry and calling. She was so faithful, despite the potential for being thrown out of her community and disowned by her family and betrothed. Yet, she remained true to the calling on her life and helped pave the way for our Savior.

At what event would you love to have been present?
Hmm, I'm assuming this would be even if I wasn't alive. So, as a history buff, I'd have to say at the 2nd Continental Congress, during the time when the Constitution of our United States was being written and revised, as well as at the signing of our Declaration of Independence. I've read accounts of that time, and it thrills me to imagine being there to witness it. What a shame we've all but spit in the faces of our founding fathers and made a mockery of almost everything they created.

And any last thoughts for your readers?
Quite often, I am asked by readers what they can do to help, so I almost always answer with requests to spread the word if you've read a book you've loved, write a review online, and of course buy the books. But even above that, if an author you love has a way for you to get in touch with him/her, take the time to write. A great many authors live a rather solitary existence, so hearing directly from readers is not only a blessing, but an encouragement as well. It helps us know what we're doing is truly touching lives and making a difference. In this world of so much rejection, it's quite a boost to receive a note or letter from readers saying how a book we wrote touched their lives. Helps us keep going.

Where can they connect with you?
Readers can always find me online at my web site (www.amberstockton.com), my blog (http://amberstockton.blogspot.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com/tiffanyamberstockton), or on Twitter (www.twitter.com/amberstockton). But I pop up in a lot of other places too. You just never know where you might see me. Smile emoticon

Thank you so much for being with us!!
Thank YOU for having me here. It's an honor and privilege.

Interview With Karen Witemeyer and Book Giveaway!!

I hope you all read the interview yesterday with Robert Whitlow. If you didn't get the chance to, please go back and read it. For today, we have an interview with Karen Witemeyer, author of Tailor-Maid Bride. She has graciously offered to give away one copy of the book, so please read to the end:)

Thanks for being with us today Karen!! When did you decide you wanted to be an author?

I had always been an avid reader, and as I grew to adulthood, I toyed with the idea of putting my own stories to paper. I'd daydream romantic plot lines and jot down my ideas in a journal, but I never committed myself to writing. First, college kept me busy. Then kids entered the picture. But in 2003 when my husband learned his job was being cut, the urge to turn someday into this day became too strong to ignore. The busyness didn't disappear, of course. I started working full-time outside the home, and the kids were still young and in need of my attention. However, the Lord had sent me a wake-up call, and I knew I had to answer.

Can you tell us a little about your debut novel, A Tailor-Made Bride?

A Tailor-Made Bride is a fun-filled romp in which a feisty seamstress tangles with a set-in-his-ways livery owner in 1880s Texas.

Here's the scoop:

Jericho "J.T." Tucker wants nothing to do with Coventry, Texas's new dressmaker. He's all too familiar with her kind--shallow women more devoted to fashion than true beauty. Yet, except for her well-tailored clothing, this seamstress is not at all what he expected.

Hannah Richards is confounded by the man who runs the livery. The unsmiling fellow riles her with his arrogant assumptions and gruff manner while at the same time stirring her heart with unexpected acts of kindness. Which side of Jericho Tucker reflects the real man?

When Hannah decides to help Jericho's sister catch a beau--leading to uproarious consequences for the whole town--will Jericho and Hannah find a way to bridge the gap between them?

Where did you get the idea for this book?

It all started with a question: What happens when believers disagree about what the Christian life should look like?

Hannah Richards believes she is being a good steward of the talents the Lord has blessed her with by turning her needle to creating dresses that are pleasing to look upon. She is imitating the Creator God who designed wildflowers, rainbows, and sunsets.

Jericho Tucker, on the other hand, believes that fancy dress goods encourage women to focus their attention on vain, superficial beauty instead of the inner attributes of a gentle and quiet spirit that Scripture promotes as true loveliness.

Both are right. Yet both see the other as wrong. By throwing Jericho's sister Cordelia into the mix, I forced these two characters to face their differences and learn from each other, to mend those tears of condemnation with threads of grace.

And why Texas?

I grew up in California, but I came to Texas for college, married a Texan, and never left. I fell in love with the glorious sunsets, frontier spirit, and the friendliness of the people. I knew I wanted to set my stories in this great state. Living here, I'm also able to bring authenticity to my writing since I can research the setting firsthand.

Are you a regimented writer? Or do you write when the urge hits:)

If I only wrote when I felt like it, I'd still be stuck in the middle of my first book instead of nearly finished with my third. There are just those days where I would rather have a tooth pulled than try to figure out what needs to happen next with my characters. I pray a lot on those days.

I don't set daily word count goals because I need flexibility in my writing schedule to accommodate my day job and the demands of being mom for three kids. So, instead of a word count goal, I set chapter goals. My normal pace is one polished chapter a week. When I need to step it up for a deadline, I increase to 3 polished chapters every 2 weeks. My chapters are generally 7-8 pages long, so this averages out to about two pages a day. Some days I write 3 pages, some days I struggle to get 2 good paragraphs. That's why I like the flexibility of the chapter goal instead of the specific word count.

You seem to have a love for history, do you use it mainly for research or have you always loved it?

Historical romance is my genre of choice, yet I hated history in school. I guess there wasn't enough romance in all those dates and wars and lists of presidents for me. However, I love digging into my research and finding tidbits that shed light on my character's lives. For instance, my heroine, Hannah Richards, in A Tailor-Made Bride is a 19th century fitness maven. In my search to discover if this portrayal could be historically accurate, I ran across a man named Dio Lewis who wrote several books in the mid-1800s on this very subject. He particularly targeted women and children and even set up an academy to train physical education teachers who would then work in the schools. I was able to locate scanned copies of many of his original works through Google Books including The New Gymnastics, the book my heroine used as her pattern. Those are the types of finds that really excite me.

If there was one event you could be at, what would it be? Historical or in the future.

There's not a particular event that I would necessarily want to be present at, but I've always thought it would be fun to spend a week or so in my favorite time period, the 1880s. I'd love to truly step into the shoes of my characters, although I'd like to magically know how to cook on a wood stove, lace up a corset, and all those other 19th century necessities so I wouldn't look like an idiot.

Is there something about you most people don't know? A secret hobby, secret wish, etc:)

I love old Judy Garland musicals and Audrey Hepburn movies. I'm an avid cross-stitcher and have squirreled away more projects than I can ever hope to finish. I also have a weakness for buying patterns that remind me of my novels.
What person would you love to meet?

As a diehard romantic, I'd love to meet the future spouses of my kids. Of course, they'd only be in grade school for my boys, and junior high or possibly senior high for my daughter, but as a mother I can't help but think how great it would be to see who these young folks were growing up to be. Then again, I might be horrified, and it could prejudice me for life. Maybe that's not such a good idea after all.

And any last thoughts for your readers? Where can they contact you?

I would love to have readers visit my Web site at: http://karenwitemeyer.com. Interview With Robert Whitlow.

The other day I was privileged to interview legal thriller author, Robert Whitlow. He is one of the most well-known authors of inspirational legal novels. Please read this interview. He has some very interesting thoughts.

Thank you for being here today, Robert!
You are known as one of the best legal thriller writers in the Inspirational genre. When did you start writing novels?

1) I have been a lawyer since 1979. I began writing fiction in 1996, unless, of course, you count some of the early pleadings I filed in court!

When a reader is done with one of your books, what do you want them to remember?

2)
My hope is that readers are entertained by the story and encouraged by the spiritual message in my novels.

As a practicing attorney, do you find it helps in your writing?

3) Being a lawyer is especially helpful in writing dialogue. I’ve read hundreds of thousands of pages of deposition testimony and court transcripts and participated in thousands of court hearings during my career. Hearing and reading so much dialogue is a great benefit. It trains the ear.

Do you have any tips or thoughts for the aspiring legal thriller writer?

4) Lawyers who want to write fiction need to recognize the differences between crafting a novel and preparing a legal brief. A legal brief must be specific, clear, and repetitive. A novel is purposely ambiguous in order to maintain suspense and tension. A book that greatly helped me understand how to write a novel is Self Editing for Fiction Writers by Browne/King.

Do you have any other novels in the works right now?

5)
Currently, I’m writing a novel about a young lawyer who reluctantly returns to his home town where he uncovers a dark secret. Recently, we finished production of a movie adaptation of my novel, The Trial. The film stars Matthew Modine, Bob Gunton, and Robert Forster and will be released later this year. The movie version of my first novel, The List, is available on DVD.

And any last thoughts for your readers?

6) I love my readers! If it weren’t for readers I wouldn’t be a writer! I enjoy hearing from readers about ways the books have blessed them.

Please check out his website and if you haven't read one of his books yet, please pick one up. They are a great read!

My Review of Sweet Perfumes

I had contacted a company previously asking about reviewing a couple of their products and was referred to this perfume company, Sweets Perfume. They sent me 10 different scents to try out!! They are sample size so they are a bit small but I was still able to get quite a few uses out them.

The little box they came in has the company name on it. Very cute! And I really like the name of the company. It sounds very feminine.

As far as the scents, I tried a varied array of them. I got a few for my family because I know they like certain scents. For my sister I got the Warm Amber. And for my mother I got the Sugar Cookie. They both said they liked the scents.

I tried to get a few different types. For example, I got an array of Citrus, Floral, Foods, etc. The one I really liked was the Blushing Rose. I also liked the Citrus. Some of them started to smell alike after a while but it was probably just because I was trying to smell them near the same time. My little sister liked the Cherry Blossom so I gave her that one. With 10 of them, I definitely had more than enough!

If you are looking for a small gift for your mother, sister or daughter, I would definitely look here. Their prices are cheap and they have several bottle sizes and shapes. The heart shaped key-chain is very cute! Please look through their website and keep them in mind:)

I was provided with product in exchange for my review of them. I was not compensated with money. All thoughts are 100% mine.

Interview With Lena Nelson Dooley!! Book Giveaway TOO!

This book looks real interesting. I will be putting up my review of it in a couple days. The author, Lena Nelson Dooley, is here with us today. I will be giving away my review copy so please read to the end:)

Welcome Lena!! So great to have you here today.

How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I have written all my life. I didn't know that not everyone wrote, because I was raised in family where everyone wrote things--letters, journals, etc. I married a man who didn't like to read or write. But he reads a lot now. In May of 1984, God told me to become a professional writer. You can read the testimony of that on the About Me page on my blog: http://lenanelsondooley.blogspot.com

Do you have someone you really look up to? Maybe another author who you always go to with questions:)
I have become good friends with a number of published Christian authors, and I respect their advice. I also host a critique group in my home, and the people God has sent to this group always help me when I'm on deadline.

What place would you love to go to? Maybe a vacation spot, or a place overseas?
I especially want to go to Australia, Norway, Sweden, France, and Hawaii.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I'm pretty transparent about my life. There's not much that hasn't been told. Maybe, my favorite actor is Tom Selleck.

What one event would you have loved to be at? Historical or future?
At the Christy Awards, with me receiving one. A girl can dream, can't she?

Who would you love to meet? This can be a historical figure too:)
I really respect George and Laura Bush. I'd love to be invited to visit them at their Crawford ranch.

Are there any works in the process right now?
I'm currently between contracts, but my agent has several proposals out, and there's some interest. We're in waiting mode.

And any last thoughts for your readers?
If you like my book, I'd love to have you write a review on one of the Internet sites. And please tell your friends about it.

Thanks so much!!

Interview With Jeff Struecker!!

I don't know about you, but I love thriller stories! I have read some books before by an author called Alton Gansky and I had enjoyed them. They were very interesting! So when a new book came out with his name on it, I checked into it to see what it was about. I mean, with a cover that looked like Certain Jeopardy:) Who could resist. So after I bought that one, I was watching for the second one to come out. And it did! This one looks even better than the first one. And guess what? I had the opportunity to interview Jeff Struecker. He is the co-author with Alton Gansky. Please read this through. While there is no giveaway, I believe you will enjoy reading this.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, Jeff? I am a husband of a great wife and a father of five terrific children. I have been a soldier for over 20 years and a committed Christian.

Do you find that what you have been through in the Army helps in your writing? I write almost exclusively from life experiences. Because I have been in the army for all of my adult life the Army certainly influences what and how I write.

When a reader gets done with your books, what do you want them to come away with? There are three things that I hope readers would take away from Blaze of Glory. First, I want the reader to get a glimpse into the courage and professionalism of the American Warrior. I am amazed at the men and women that serve our country and I hope my books help the reader sense the same pride in these great men and women. Second, I want readers to appreciate the sacrifice that military families make for our country. Military families are the unsung heroes from this war that we are going through and I want our readers to appreciate how much military families give so that we servicemen and women can continue to fight for our freedom. Third, I want readers see how much of a difference a personal faith in Jesus Christ makes when life get hard and the chips are down.

Do you have someone you have always wanted to meet? Absolutely. Osama Bin Laden. I would love to convey a message to him on behalf of about 300 million Americans.

Can you tell us about your family? Dawn and I have been married for almost 20 years. She is my high school sweetheart. I couldn't imagine a better wife. She also has been raising our five children for most of the past seven years by herself while I have been overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our five children range in age from 16 to 8 years old. They are awesome children. Dawn and I enjoy spending our time with them.

I know Blaze of Glory just came out but do you have any other books in the making? Alton Gansky and I have started working on the follow up to Blaze of Glory. I can't tell you much about it right now but I am excited about the book that will follow Blaze of Glory.

And any last thoughts for your readers? I want to thank all those folks that pick up this book. I hope it is an encouragement to them when times get hard. I also want to thank Alton for his amazing work on this book. He really deserves more credit for this project than I do.

Thank you so much for being here today!!

Now what did I tell you!! Please pick up his new book, Blaze of Glory at your local Christian bookstore. And please check out his website!!

Interview with Cara James and Love On A Dime Giveaway!!

Today we have with us, Cara James, author of Love On A Dime. She has agreed to give one of my blog readers a copy of her book so please comment at the end:)

Thanks so much for being with us today Cara!!
Your new book looks very interesting. Where did you get the idea for this story?

Several years ago I ran across a reference to 19th century dime novels. The topic of popular fiction sounded interesting so I did a little investigating on the internet. I found a lot of information which started me thinking about a story of a young woman writer of romance dime novels. At the time they were often considered sensational and scandalous. But some were uplifting and presented a moral lesson. My minor in college was history and I always enjoyed learning about the Gilded Age and the enormous fortunes that were accumulated after the Civil War. So it seemed like the perfect time frame for my story.

I picked Newport, Rhode Island as my setting because that’s where the rich people spent their summers back then and I love the place. I spent a lot of time there as a young kid.

How long have you known you wanted to be an author?

I’ve wanted to be an author since I was seven years old. I think I attempted my own stories almost as soon as I could read. I wrote my first ‘book’ based on the Bobbsey Twins series. It was an anniversary present for my parents. I was so proud of my twenty pages. From that point on I knew I wanted to write. I wish I hadn’t put it off for so many years before I got really serious about learning the craft and the publishing business.

Do you have someone you look up to? Maybe another author or relative?

I look up to my husband because he’s a man with great integrity—and a great sense of humor. I’m really lucky! I also admire quite a few writers, but there are so many I can’t list them all. I’ve gotten a tremendous amount of help and encouragement from the members of the Gulf Coast Chapter of RWA and my “Seeker sisters” who blog at Seekerville. Otherwise like most writers, I’d be on my own struggling to get published and without a clue about how to do it. I’ve found writers to be very giving and helpful to other writers.

Do you have a place you always wanted to go? Maybe a vacation spot or somewhere overseas?

I always, always wanted to go to Europe. When my husband was a Navy pilot on a Mediterranean cruise, I ‘followed the ship’ from port to port with a group of Navy wives. I was there for nearly four months and saw most everything I wanted including Yugoslavia which was then a communist country. But unfortunately my Eurrail pass didn’t take me to Great Britain. I’d still love to visit England and Ireland. Maybe I will in the next couple of years.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?

I was a Naval officer for almost eight years and I once landed on an aircraft carrier (the Lexington) in the Gulf of Mexico. No, I wasn’t the pilot! At the time women weren’t allowed to fly in the Navy—not that I ever would have. I’m scared to death of flying!

What one event would you have loved to be at? Either historical or future?

I’m more interested in what happened in the past than what will happen in the future. I think I’d have liked to be at a debutante ball in the 1890s.

Do you have any other works in the making?

Love on Assignment, the second book in The Ladies of Summerhill series is coming out in January 2011. I can’t wait to see the cover! The Thomas Nelson folks did such a wonderful job on the cover of Love on a Dime, my first book, I’m hoping for another beautiful one. The working title for the third book is Love by the Book, but I haven’t started it yet. I’m not sure what I’ll write after that, but it’ll be historical. I have lots of fun ideas spinning around in my head.

And any last thoughts for your readers?

Yes! If you’re a writer keep on writing through all the ups and downs. For readers, I hope you enjoy stories that take you back in time to a very different and very interesting age. We still have so much in common with people from the past.

Thanks so much, Cara!!

Interview With Bob Hamer!! Enemies Among Us Giveaway

Today we have with us, Bob Hamer, author of Enemies Among Us. As an author, Bob brings a lot of interesting concepts up. Bob has sent me a copy of his book that I get to give away to one of you, my blog readers:) Make sure you read through the interview, please. I know it is long, but it is well worth it. Part of the reason I do these interviews, is that I get to know more about the authors behind the books. I am sure you feel the same way. So please read the whole thing. You don't want to miss it!!

How long were you in the FBI?

I spent twenty-six years in the FBI, all of them as a street agent and many of those years undercover. Both as a case agent and as an undercover agent I worked organized crime, terrorism, gangs, and child exploitation.

When did you decide to get into law enforcement?

Even as a child I played cops and robbers in the backyard with the neighborhood kids so I think there was always a desire to get into law enforcement at some level. Prior to joining the FBI, I was a judge advocate in the Marine Corps. Regardless of how they portray it on TV, after spending four years in a military courtroom, I realized most trials aren’t “whodunits.” The issue almost always came down to whether the interrogation was coerced or the search was legal. For me, the excitement of the courtroom waned quickly and I certainly wasn’t interested in sitting behind a desk all day drafting legal documents. I really wanted a job offering excitement and a chance to serve. Even though I was a Captain in the Marines I was still just an attorney, but the Marines instilled a warrior ethos. I wanted to be part of that small cadre of men and women who protected the sheep from the wolves. I knew the FBI sought lawyers and accountants, so I applied and was accepted.

Did you ever get used to working undercover?

Absolutely. Many times I was more comfortable in my undercover role than I was as an agent. I looked forward to the face-to-face undercover meeting. I loved that thrill.

Do you bring those experiences to your novel?

I hope the reader will capture that same excitement and thrill I felt with each undercover assignment. There is a lot of me in Matt Hogan. He’s just younger and a lot better looking.

How true is ENEMIES AMONG US?

Obviously I was an FBI undercover agent and I worked terrorism. There are elements of many of my undercover cases in the composite story. I worked on the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Los Angeles and with many people from the Middle East. I had some top informants from Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran. We spent a great deal of time together and they were excellent teachers. I appreciated the education I received from them.

How did you prevent the undercover work from interfering with your life at home?

I tried to always put the family first. I tried never to miss a ball game or performance and tried to work undercover deals around the family schedule. Of course it didn’t always work. The hours while working undercover can be unpredictable and erratic and my family understood that. Those nights when I did come home I liked to think I was able to ring out of my sponge-like brain of all I encountered that day. It wasn’t easy because working undercover is a 24/7 mindset but I tried hard not to bring the cases into the house.

What makes your novel different from others on the market?

FIDELIS is a unique imprint. Each of the authors “has been there.” The authors Ollie North has enlisted for this imprint include decorated combat veterans, world champion martial artists, undercover agents. Each brings a unique perspective to his writing. It’s not just research and a tagalong experience with real cops or real members of the military. Each of us has been there. Each has had a very exciting life, each has experienced the action, and each brings that excitement to the written page.

In the novel you discuss the use of charities to raise money for terrorism, is that true?

Charities have long been a vehicle by which various terrorist organizations have raised funds. Probably the most famous is the Holy Land Foundation. The foundation described itself as the largest Islamic charity in the United States. It was charged with funneling more than $12 million to Hamas. Its founders were convicted and given lengthy sentences. Since September 2001, the Treasury Department has designated more than 40 charities as being fronts for terrorism. At least three, Benevolence International Foundation, Global Relief Fund, and the Holy Land Foundation -- had headquarters in the United States. Two, Al Haramain Foundation and Islamic African Relief Agency, had U.S. branch offices.

Do you see Islam as a threat?

I see radical Islam as a major threat. It is an ideology of hatred. Its followers are convinced by their leaders to kill themselves in order to kill the infidels. In previous wars we have faced adversaries willing to die in battle against our servicemen but this radical element doesn’t care if the targets are men or women, military or civilian, Christians, Jews – or even fellow Muslims. If in the eyes of the leaders, the targets are “infidels” then they are worthy targets. By their own writings the immediate goal is to establish an Islamic Caliphate in which there is no room for competing beliefs. There doesn’t appear to be any negotiation. To achieve the goal they have launched a jihad against anyone they perceive to be an opponent.

What role does religion play in your life?

We attend church every week but I would say my faith rather than my religion sustains me. Moses may have only meant this for Joshua, but often before a difficult undercover assignment I would reflect on his words in Deuteronomy, “The Lord himself will go before you and be with you: he will neither leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” For whatever reason and however undeserved God wrapped His protective arms around me.

Why did you write this book?

I guess Sylvester Stallone’s answer in the original Rocky movie might be best. I can’t sing or dance. I started writing on a regular basis almost by accident. I enjoyed it and wanted to devote more time to it after I retired from the FBI. I also love to read, especially thrillers by such authors as Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, and of course, Ollie North. I wanted to bring my experiences to the page and write the type of book I wanted to read. I wanted to write a thriller about an FBI agent who struggled with some of the same issues I’ve confronted and maybe many of my readers have confronted as well. My goal is to give the reader an entertaining read and raise a few questions in the process.

Readers!! As I said, it was long, but good!!
