BOOK BLAST EVENT
Well, today I have another debut novel for you all. This is a new author that her book just came out and I wanted to get her some more publicity, as well as trying out a new book:) Never know when you might find a book you will fall in love with. I am going to have an interview with her today, as well as a giveaway. My review of the book will probably go up later this afternoon. I am in the middle of reading it right now and want to get it finished so I can type up my review. Please read through and meet a new author!
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
For most of my life. When I was little I used to write poems, stories, and songs and enter writing contests. I’ve always been an avid reader growing up and I used to envy those who put pen to paper and the result was an amazing feat of storytelling. I wanted that to be me one day though I have to admit that I never actually thought it would be. God allowing me to write novels that bring glory to Him is a dream come true for me.
Can you tell me a little bit about your book?
A Place of Abundance is a Christian fiction novel set in the late 1800’s. It follows the story of a young woman, Alicia, whose life is struck by tragedy. After the untimely death of her parents, Alicia is devastated and promises to never trust God again. She decides to start a new life in a new town as a schoolteacher. There she meets Caleb Carter, a young ranch owner whose parents were killed three years ago. As Alicia begins to make friends with Caleb and his younger sister, Claire, she wonders how a loving God could allow terrible things to happen to good people. Then, an unwelcome band of outlaws appear in town, and Alicia is faced with two choices – holding onto a bitter heart or accepting the peace of forgiveness.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
I want readers to understand the power of God’s love and that God never leaves you even when you can’t feel His presence. He is always there and will get us through whatever circumstances come our way. There are times when we think God doesn’t love us or we feel weak in our faith, or feel like giving up or that God has abandoned us. But it’s through the trials that you learn the most. You learn that God can always be counted on and while you may have given up on God, he has not given up on you. In the story, Alicia has a crisis of faith. When tragedy strikes her life she loses faith. She can’t get past the question of why God can allow bad things to happen to good people. It’s a question that many people struggle with today. We live in a fallen world and as a result there will be suffering. No matter what, circumstances will come up in your life – both good and bad. It’s how you react to the circumstances that matters. A life centered on God will carry you down any road God asks you to walk, no matter how difficult, and that is something the main character has to learn.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit?
A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc? I have a long list of places I would like to visit but one place I would really like to see is Prince Edward Island. I’m a big fan of the Anne of Green Gables series and I think it would be a beautiful place to visit.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
One would be Olivia de Havilland. She is one of the few living actors of the thirties and forties era. I would love to talk to her about life and filming during that time, what Hollywood was like back then, and talk to her about her role in Gone With The Wind. I would also love to have dinner with fellow Christian author Lori Wick. She is one of my all time favorite authors and an inspiration to me. Meeting her would be an honor.
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I would have loved to be with Peter, James, and John when they saw the transfiguration of Jesus in the book of Matthew chapter 17. What an awe-inspiring experience!
Do you have a favorite hobby?
Singing and acting are two of my favorite hobbies but my newest hobby is horseback riding and it’s a lot of fun!
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I speak French (I’m a French teacher) but I also studied American Sign Language in high school and used to interpret in the deaf ministry at the church I went to as a youth. I haven’t had the opportunity to sign in many years, however, and I’m afraid I’ve forgotten a good bit.
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Don’t give up! Write a little bit each day, or if you’re a teacher like me, take full advantage of summer and Christmas breaks to write. It can be a slow process but well-worth it.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I have been influenced and inspired by many Christian fiction authors throughout the years. I hope and pray that you will enjoy A Place of Abundance and that it will inspire you the way that the writings of my favorite Christian authors have inspired me.
