Interview with Paula Wiseman and 2 Winner Book Giveaway!

Hey friends, today I have for you an interview with an author I had never heard of until recently. Paula Wiseman is the author of the book, Contingency. Now, believe me when I say, having never heard of an author is not a bad thing. I have met many new and wonderful authors through my blog and really enjoy getting to know more about them and their works. So, when this author said she would be happy to be a guest on my blog AND to giveaway a book to one of my readers, I quickly took her up on it:) Hopefully you will enjoy her interview as much as I did.

Thank you for being with us today, Paula!!
Thank you for the opportunity, Charity!

How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I've been writing stories since I was a kid. I wrote my first novel in college which safely resides in a dusty folder under my desk- where it belongs. Trust me. When I left the research lab to stay home with my firstborn, I began to pursue writing professionally.
Can you tell me a little bit about your book?
Contingency begins as
Bobbi Molinsky’s comfortable life is shattered when a forwarded email from her husband’s account lands in her inbox. The email teases, “My whole evening is free again.” After an angry confrontation with her husband, Chuck, she is left with the broken remains of an eighteen year marriage. Bobbi agrees forgiving Chuck is the right thing, the God-honoring thing to do, but it leaves her empty and isolated. Teaching her second-graders is a burden. Taking care of her boys saps all her energy. It seems God Himself has walked away, leaving her to struggle alone. In the meantime, Bobbi can’t deny the transformation in Chuck, but genuine forgiveness requires trust, and trust is a risk she’s not willing to take.

When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
It's one thing to read Scripture about forgiveness, but it's a very different thing when God calls on us to love like He does and to forgive like He does. Bobbi wrestles with that in a very real, identifiable way. Chuck has hard lessons of his own about humility and sacrificial love to work through. I hope when readers reach the last page they are satisfied that the characters were genuine, that the struggle was real and that they are pleased with the resolution. I also hope they will want to check in with Bobbi and Chuck a few years down the road and see how they are doing.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I'd like to see the pyramids and I'd like to go to Australia.

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
Again with just one... One of my favorite moments in Scripture is in Exodus 14, when the Israelites are standing on the edge of the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army gaining on them, and Moses says "Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today." And then the Red Sea parts.

Do you have a favorite hobby?
If I have free time, I write. If I have even more free time, I read.
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I hate making phone calls. I would rather send 50 emails as make one phone call.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Find someone who will always be in your corner, no matter what. You'll need him or her for those days when the rejection and doubts have you at the point of giving up.

Any last thoughts for your readers?
I love you all! It is the coolest, scariest, most humbling thing to know someone thought my book was worth picking up. Then when someone enjoys that book and takes time to drop me a note... well, that is an indescribable blessing. Thank you!

Great interview! Thanks, ladies, for sharing it with us. :) It's always interesting to hear what makes other writers tick.

What don't I like to do? I hate driving in a lot of traffic, particularly if I am not sure where I am going.

Thanks for doing this!
