I am having a wonderful author visit today. Lisa Lickel is an author I had the privilege of interviewing and she will be giving away a really cool item!! Not a book:) Try guessing and then check below for what it is. Thank you for being with us today, ! How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I'm delighted to be here, Charity! I love meeting with new people! Being an author was not on my list of prospective careers until about 2002 or so when I saw an ad for the Christian Writer's Guild course in a magazine. I was working as a Church secretary at that time, had some discretionary money, so I took the course. (Sheepish look on my face) It's kind of addicting once you start selling.
Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
The last book published (so far) is called Meander Scar-weird title, I know. I was set to change it to Seal Upon My Heart, which I had started to like, when my publisher decided she liked the original. A meander scar is a geological term referring to the area left behind when a stream or river returns to it's natural course, and an idea I fell in love with. Sure, you can go back after life delivers a blow, but there's always consequences-hence the scar. My characters have been through life-altering events and are trying to get back on course. Ann's husband went missing years ago and she's finally ready to get on with living again when she learns the truth about what happened to him. Mark, the young man who rekindles Ann's interest in life and and romance again, hasn't had the greatest life either, and has some tough choices to make when things don't go his way. And the book just won a Grace Award for best romance. I'm so honored; my opponents were worthy.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
I write fiction; it's always my hope that the readers will have been transported to a life outside of his or her own for a few hours, enjoying some good and clean entertainment while pondering on the choices my characters have made. I hope they'll have had such a good time that they'll tell all their friends about it.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I've been fortunate to travel all around the continental US and quite a bit of Canada and Russia, but I'd love to travel around Great Britain and then visit my cousins in Norway.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
The husband and wife who built my house, John and Mary Lacraft. They came from New York and French Canada to settle here in 1846, built the house around 1852, raised 5 children and then moved to South Dakota in the 1870's. I want to soak up that enterprising spirit.
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I have a secret passion to be at the ribbon-cutting ceremony that open the first Moonbase Colony.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I love to read and do puzzles.
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I used to be in forensics in high school; even went on to the state competition reading Lafcadio Hearn, but now I can't even read a paper in front of a large audience. I much prefer speaking to small groups.
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Patience is still a virtue; persistence is still a quality to practice; perfection a goal to continually strive for.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I love to talk about the process of writing and story-telling; I'd enjoy meeting or virtually meeting with your reading groups. I have discussion questions on all books on my web site, as well as excerpts and some recipes from the books.
And how can they connect with you?
My web site has all the contact information, as well as links to my blogs and various group sites, my schedule and social networking sites.
Thanks so much for being here today Lisa!

Good morning, all! Thanks Charity for having me here. I love a good mystery too.
Lisa, this post brought back a wonderful memory for me. When we moved into our 140 year old house, we were able to interview the great-granddaughter of the original owners. She told us when she was about 8-10 (ahem) how her father used to send her to the tavern? downtown for a pail of beer after a hot day, and how she used to suck off the suds before she got home. Now, that's not exactly what I think is right, but it was such a colorful nuggest of humanity that I'll use it in a story one day. Can't you just picture it? Thanks for the great interview, Charity and thanks, Lisa, for sharing!
Enjoyed the interview. How neat to be living in such a old home. Must have some interesting nooks and crammies.
Blessings,
Jo

Good Morning Lisa & Charity,
So...if I win and you make me a Kindle cover, does that mean my husband will buy me one to go in it? ;0) Then I could buy Healing Grace to read on it!
Lisa, When is your cozy mystery coming out?
To live in a home so rich in history must be a phenomenal place to dwell.
Have a great day, Y'all!

Wow, thanks - and I just posted about tenacity at thebarndoor.net. I think I have that beer pail in my collection of old tinware, Linda, and we hear stories like that too.
I think that definitely, a Kindle cover deserves a Kindle to go with it. And they're on sale. Now, how can you beat that?
Great to read about you here, Lisa. I saw on your site that you wrote The Gold Standard with a character of the same last name as mine. Neat! If I win, I would like a pillowcase in the butterfly pattern so I can give it to my reading friend, Joanne, who collects butterfly items ever since she helped me research my book, Butterfly Come Home. I send her butterfly theme gifts every Christmas.

Loved the interview, Lisa. I've wondered what Meander Scar meant--I can see why that captured your interest!!
Hugs!!
The Gold Standard is another book she has written.

I finally made it, Lisa! Better late than never, if you'll pardon the expression. Really enjoyed this interview. You're such a multi-faceted, talented person (and writer, but that goes without saying, really), and I always smile while reading what fun and interesting things you have to say.
Great interview! Blessings.
