Thank you for being with us today, Thomas!! How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
I started writing poetry when I was 14. I hoped some of them would be lyrics for rock & roll songs. When that didn’t work out, I put writing out of my mind until I was in my 30’s. Although I had some articles published in denominational and business magazines, I really didn’t consider myself an author. It wasn’t until I started writing Night of the Cossack and got involved with a critique group that I really thought I might want to be an author.
Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
Both of my grandfathers died before I was born. All of my life I felt the desire to have one. In 2004 I had a major heart attack and found myself with a lot of time. I took what little I knew about my maternal grandfather and decided to create a story about him for myself. As I wrote, my imagination took charge and I found myself involved in the life of a very exciting man and his story. I really didn’t think about it being published until I joined an online writing group. One of the members, Michelle Buckman, critiqued the first chapter and I began to see the possibility. I joined a local critique group and they convinced me it was good enough to publish.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
A desire to get to know their grandparents and ancestors before it’s too late to find out who they really were.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I’ve been to Europe twice, but not to the places where my grandparents lived—Russia, Poland, Ukraine. I would love to go there and see what the people are like and study the history.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
Billy Graham, Myles Munroe
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
Tearing down of the Berlin Wall
Do you have a favorite hobby?
Macro photography
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I’m an introvert
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Don’t wait to build a marketing platform—work hard at making your name known.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
Today is yesterday’s future—tomorrow’s past.
And how can they connect with you?
