Synopsis
Everything can change in an instant ... and take a lifetime to unravel.
When Mac McDonald loses his son in an accident, the ensuing 17 years of bitterness and pain erodes his love for his family and leaves him angry with God ... and just about everyone else.
Mac's rage stonewalls his career in the police department and makes for a combustible situation when he's partnered with Sam Wright, a rising star on the force who happens to be a part-time pastor and a loving family man.
Mac's home life is as frightening as anything he encounters on the streets of Memphis. Money is tight and emotions run high as he constantly argues with his wife and his surviving son Blake, who is hanging with the wrong crowd and in danger of flunking out of school.
Sam Wright also never expected to be a police officer. He has a calling—to be a minister like his Grandpa George. But leading a small, start-up church doesn't always put enough food on the table for a young family, so Sam doubles as a police officer. With his new promotion to Sergeant, Sam starts questioning if his real calling might actually be police work rather than the pastorate.
Can Mac and Sam somehow join forces to help one another when it's impossible for either of them to look past their differences—especially the most obvious one?
Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal deep wounds by extending and receiving God's grace. Offer THE GRACE CARD ... and never underestimate the power of God's love.
Now, I was really excited to see this movie. It has a very interesting plot and I like a film that is all about grace. We all sat down to watch this as a family and I am always checking to see if the children are interested in it. That shows a lot to me about a film if the 10 year old is excited. Overall she watched this film through. There were a couple slow parts that she kind of got bored at but that was not the norm. There was a lot of action throughout so that pretty much interested her. There was one part I kind of wish had more to it and I will mention that below but overall it was a good film.
The beginning of this film is a little bit shocking. From reading the synopsis I knew what happened but I didn't expect it to be shown so vividly that way it was. Don't get me wrong, this was not violent or anything, and I didn't feel like it was overdone, but it does show a death of a little boy. I totally liked Sam. He is the colored officer who gets partnered with Mac. There are little bits of mystery throughout the show and also parts of suspense. You find out several things about Sam and his family and why he is in the ministry only part time. Sam is going through a lot at home with his wife and his son, Blake. There is a funny part with a counselor that had us all laughing.
There was one problem that I felt with the film. When Mac gets saved, I expected a lot more out of it. He is fighting God and is so bitter that when he gives in, I thought it would be a big thing. I felt it was kind of played down and nothing that stands out in the film. Now this is my opinion. Maybe somebody else who watches it will feel like that is the big part of the movie. I almost didn't mention it but I feel our Christian films should be very Christian and bold in their stand. And please don't mistake what I am saying. This film is bold, but just not as big as I thought it would be.
Overall, this was a good film. The acting is very well done and is not cheesy. There are several parts I sooo want to tell you about but I think it would spoil the film:) I would suggest getting this film and watching it with your family. This is not a film about entertainment and fun but about a family who is coming apart at the seams and a pastor who has the ability to help, in more ways than one.
