Blog Tour for Rare Earth by Davis Bunn + Giveaway!

Up today is a blog tour for a really great book. Rare Earth by Davis Bunn is the second book in the Marc Royce series but can be read as a stand-alone novel. And boy is it good! Check out my review, enter the giveaway and read the interview with the author in my next post.

Marc Royce stares down from the helicopter on the Rift Valley slashing across Africa like a scar. Tribal feuds, drought, and dislocation have left their devastation. And he sees a new wound--a once-dormant volcano oozing molten lava across the dry landscape--and clouds of ash obscure his vision. His undercover assignment is similarly obscured. Supposedly dispatched to audit a relief organization's accounts, Marc finds himself amid the squalor and chaos of Kenyan refugee camps caught in a stranglehold of corruption and ruthlessness.

But his true task relates to the area's reserves of once-obscure metals now indispensible to high-tech industry. The value of this rare earth inflames tensions on the world's stage as well as among warring tribes. When an Israeli medical administrator, Kitra, seeks Marc's help with her humanitarian efforts, they forge an unexpected link between impoverished African villages and another Silicon Valley rising in the Israeli desert. Precious metals and inventive minds promise new opportunities for prosperity, secure futures, and protection of valuable commodities from terrorists. As Marc prepares to report back to Washington, he seizes a chance to restore justice to this troubled land. This time, he may have gone too far.

MY REVIEW-I have been a fan of Davis Bunn's for a while. I started by reading his historical books, written with his wife, and then progressed to his mystery/suspense books when they came out. That is what category this new book, Rare Earth, falls into. It is the second in the series but can definitely be read as a stand alone. I didn't remember much from the first book but it didn't really matter as I swiftly plunged into this one for a great ride!

The book has a lot of mystery to it and a great plot. I had never heard of this rare earth thing before so it was also educational and I found out some things I had never learned before. But believe me, the action in this was the best part! Davis Bunn knows how to write an action scene and I felt like I was watching a movie. I could see how things went, who threw a punch, what direction the guys feet went, etc:) It was really kind of fun. But the suspense was good too. You are kind of thrown right into the adventure from the first page and you have to figure out what is going on.

I really liked Marc and felt he was realistic. With his background and baggage he is carrying around, he just seems very real. I liked how he thought, acted and was so humble. Kitra was an enjoyable heroine. She is so trying to win her fathers approval it almost hurt. And she feels so guilty about her brother. The other characters are all very good. There are none that are minor characters, they all play big parts! I loved them all:)

Overall a great book! Nothing I found that I didn't like. Great plot and am seriously crossing my fingers hoping for a third book in the Marc Royce series:) Please!! This is definitely a 5 star book that I would give more if I could!

I'd fly over Alaska, hoping to see the icebergs breaking apart, along with the glorious mountains and rugged land.

I don't think I'd like riding in a helicopter so I'd go somewhere close, like fly over Colorado.

I read the first Mark Royce book and really liked it. I would love to win a copy of Rare Earth.

Since my son's job in the army is to work on helicopters (apache) he has gotten to fly on the OUTSIDE of one. I'd fly anywhere, just put me up in the air and fly around. Let me wear those cool headphones so I feel all tough and I'll be happy.
I already am a fb fan and subscribe to Mr Bunns newsletter.

Since we're imagining: IF i could be guaranteed the chopper would not go down, I'd fly over Africa--because that's the only way I'd feel safe enough to see that fantastic landscape and all the wild animals. LOL

With no guarantee, I'd fly over the fascinating land of Scotland then maybe south to the softer English country side and west to Ireland. (Well, all of Europe would be a welcome destination, but a bit far for a helicopter.)

Thanks for the imagined vacation.

My husband and I love reading Davis's books, and haven't read Rare Earth. From your review it sounds (as usual for DB) like a great read; we look forward to it.

Blessings,
Mary Kay

I know it may sound tame compared to other places in the world, but I'd like to go through the Grand Canyon in a helicopter.

I already get Davis Bunn's newsletter and have already liked his Facebook page a long time ago.

I know it is a bit far, but if I could fly to anywhere in a helicopter I would fly back to Japan. I was there about 10 years ago and would love to see more!

I would go to Europe and the Alps. Stunning. Or maybe Hawaii. I went to Alaska and already took a plane through the mountains to walk on a glacier but would not mind that again. kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.
