ABOUT THE PROMISE

The Promise: The Birth of the Messiah is an animated musical celebration of one of the most pivotal events in all human history, the birth of Jesus Christ.
This beautifully crafted musical is a faithful adaptation of the birth narrative from the Gospel of Luke in both story and song. The animated production leverages optical motion technology to blend traditional animation techniques with the performance talents of ballet dancers and dramatic stage actors. The result is a unique and worshipful story experience that will inspire audiences young and old for years to come.

MY THOUGHTS-I have to admit, this film really surprised me. I like some musicals but most of them are not my cup of tea. This one was really good in my opinion. It basically follows in the vein of Handel's Messiah. We see the High Priest from the Old Testament waiting for the coming Messiah and then it fast forwards to Jerusalem and the Jews waiting all this time for the Promise. There are mockers and skeptics who scoff at them and say He will never come but their faith stands strong and never wavers.

I love how Mary and Joseph are portrayed. Mary has such a trust in her Lord and her faith about the Messiah coming through her. Joseph is shown as not believing she has been pure but then he has a dream that convinces him it is of the Lord. We see as they marry and then travel to the inn. One of my favorite parts is when the angels appear to the shepherds in the field. This was so amazing!! The animation and visual effects are so well done. Only thing I didn't care for was Mary's mother. She was very nagging and whiny. I also can't imagine a Jew back then using the term, "in heaven's name". Other than that, this is a dvd I would urge you to pick up and watch but also to use as a gift. With the holidays coming up you can use these as gifts for christian friends but for non-christians as well. I have to tell you, the kids here were enthralled by it and watched it all the way through:) Excellent film!! Please make sure to watch the trailer!

I'd give it to my 3 kids as an early Christmas present so we could watch it in anticipation of the birth of Christ.
