Reservations for Two by Hillary Lodge + Family Christian GC #Giveaway! #Fcblogger

*Disclosure* I received a copy of this book from Family Christian. All thoughts are 100% mine.

I recently received this book for review and I have to admit, Reservations for Two quickly went to my top 5 list so far this year. I was able to read the first book in the series, A Table by the Window, last year but my obsession with Hillary's novels started back with Plain Jayne. She is an excellent author and though I am not a big fan of Amish books, her Plain and Simple series is still on my shelf:) And for someone who clears out her bookshelf at least twice a month, that is saying a lot. This new series is not Amish but centers around a bakery. And the recipes included inside just add to the specialness of this book. Okay, I made a new word there, specialness isn't in any dictionary but they really do help add something.

The two main characters are very familiar and I felt like I was re-uniting with old friends. Juliette D'Alisa is the restaurant owner who used to be a food writer. Her boyfriend would be Neil McLaren, the one who lives in Memphis Tennessee while she lives in Washington, Oregon. Of course, there is a lot of traveling in this book including a trip to a quaint little French chateau. Things are grand and they find themselves falling more in love with each other. But their whole life won't be a vacation trip and once they get back home, will they still feel the same way?

Juliette is definitely a woman who is able to take care of herself but I loved how she tended to lean on Neil when he was available. The night of her grandfather's party in Montalcino showed me how much she depended on him. As I am sure you can tell, food plays a big part in this series. Recipes are found at the end of each chapter but even in the story there is always mention of lovely meals and mouth watering deserts. Believe me, you do not want to read this while you are hungry! I love how both characters are portrayed and how they grow together.

I dont mind recipes in a fiction novel, but it seems a bit out of place to me.

I don't really care either way. Truth is, I rarely read the recipes (not big into cooking) but they don't bother me either.

It depends on where they are. I don't mind them if they're at the back of the book. Otherwise, no thank you.
