Captive Movie Book #Review & #Giveaway! #FollowYourPurpose

Overview

CAPTIVE, based on a miraculous true story that drew the attention of the entire nation, is a thrilling drama about the spiritual collision of two broken lives.  When Brian Nichols - on the run as the subject of a city wide manhunt and desperate to make contact with his newborn son - takes recovering meth addict Ashley Smith hostage in her own apartment, she turns for guidance to Rick Warren’s best-selling inspirational book, The Purpose Driven Life.  While reading aloud, Ashley and her would-be killer each face crossroads where despair and death intersect hope.

MY REVIEW-Captive is a film I have heard a lot about. Brian Bird, screenwriter for the movie, is a friend of mine and someone I am proud to know. So when he let us know about the new movie, I just knew I had to see it. Imagine my surprise when I was offered the chance to review the book, and giveaway a copy to one of my readers!

I was familiar with the background of the story but I had not read any detailed information on it. So it was a pretty good shock when I read Ashley's background, the account of her husbands murder, and then her drug abuse. And to think that God used all this in His timing and for a purpose. We don't always know why things happen, or what will come from our circumstances, but God does. And when we are often at the point of being lost to ourselves, that is when God steps in and does His best work. I realized that more than ever as I read this story of a brave woman who hung in there and calmly talked a man down and had the guts to talk to him about the Lord. You don't see that often. It strengthened my resolve to use my situations and follow my purpose. To do what the Lord commands and desires, even when being held captive.

*Caution* Just as a precaution, there are some hard subjects in here. Drug abuse and drug references are talked about as well as violence from her husband. And of course the peril she is in with the hostage situation. The movie is rated PG-13 so I would just urge anyone to use caution when they read this or watch the film. Not for children:)

I don't remember hearing about it before. It's not playing anywhere near me for me to see it either.

I think I remember hearing about this. If it's the story I'm thinking of, it actually happened many years ago, at least 2010, or earlier. I remember thinking at the time it would probably be a movie someday.
