The Choosing By Rachelle Dekker Book #Review

ABOUT THE BOOK: THE CHOOSING

Like all citizens since the Ruining, Carrington Hale knows the importance of this day. But she never expected the moment she’d spent a lifetime preparing for—her Choosing ceremony—to end in disaster. Ripped from her family, she’ll spend her days serving as a Lint, the lowest level of society. She knows it’s her duty to follow the true way of the Authority. But as Carrington begins this nightmare, rumors of rebellion rattle her beliefs. Though the whispers contradict everything she’s been told, they resonate deep within.
Then Carrington is offered an unprecedented chance at the life she’s always dreamed of, yet she can’t shake the feeling that it may be an illusion. With a killer targeting Lints and corruption threatening the highest levels of the Authority, Carrington must uncover the truth before it destroys her.

MY THOUGHTS-I went into this book a doubting person, but came out on the other side a firm believer in the writing talents of Rachelle Dekker! When I first accepted it for review, I did it because I knew the name Dekker, and that it would be good. But by the time I was halfway through, Rachelle was standing on her own name with no help from her father! I am not really the type of person who likes books set in the future. And this one is set in 2055. I was wondering how in the world I would get through it! But man alive, I was finished in two days and totally became engrossed from the first chapter.

The world as we know it is totally changed. People are given tasks and if they are not chosen, then they are nobodies. There are those in charge who set down all the rules and everyone follows them for fear of punishment. I totally loved how Rachelle wove the morals into the story and how it corresponds to our life today, not just in the future. The message Aaron gives, wow! It gave me chills as I read it, as well as tears. A powerful book that I thoroughly enjoyed and will be waiting anxiously for the second one in the series. Even if you don't care for books set in the future, I would urge you to read this one. This author has made a fan of me!
