Alrighty, we pick up the story with Rosie mothering Lee about being up and on his feet so soon after the accident. If you will remember in the previous installment, a cable snapped and cut Lee's foot. Of course we all know how Rosie does things and she is all worried about him being in the draft and moving around. His response? "I cut my foot, I don't have the plague". I love their bantering back and forth!! Regretfully Lee finds out that his business is in a hole and they have lost contracts.

Elizabeth is trying to get started on her story of Hope Valley. But when Jack arrives at her door, he finds the floor littered with crumpled up pieces of paper. She informs him that she just can't seem to get past the beginning of the story, though she wants to tell others the account of Hope Valley and it's people. He reminds her that sometimes you have inspiration and sometimes you don't and she believes hers has taken a vacation. But have no fear when Mountie Jack is near because he is carrying a case that looks amazingly like a typewriter!

He ordered it from the mercantile and tells her to try it out. He knows how much these stories mean to her and wanted to get her a gift. So she sits down to write, typing away with one finger at a time if I may add, and then hands him the paper, which reads, "You are my inspiration." At which point he gives her that adoring look that says so much, even including his wonderful grin at the end!

In this episode we get to meet a new young lady who just moved to Hope Valley from Hamilton. Hattie Ferguson arrives in school with a huge chip on her shoulder. We will find out more about her later but just suffice to say that she is used to the finer things of life and isn't happy about being in dumpy Hope Valley.

MY PICTURE

Florence is back and sparkling as ever. I love her feisty character and when we come upon her here, she is backing Dottie into a party for her upcoming birthday. We all know Florence and how she likes to fuss. Needless to say when Bill steps out of a building onto the sidewalk and announces he knows someone has a birthday coming up, Dottie is flustered, but it appears that Florence wants her and Bill to spend the evening together as she informs him that Dottie is busy for lunch, but not dinner. And of course Bill invites her for a birthday dinner at the cafe, 7 o'clock on Thursday. I know it is still part his, but I would think it might be a little difficult asking Abigail to close the cafe so he can cook dinner for another woman.

Frank and Abigail are growing steadily in their relationship. We find them at the cafe and Abigail is packing food that Frank will be taking to the settlers in the valley. She knows how it is to be looking for a better life but also knowing it takes a while. While I personally love how Bill and Abigail are together, I see why people love Frank. And Abigail even decides to take the day off and ride out with him to visit with the settlers. Before they can take off though, someone appears at the back door, interrupting their little moment. You guessed it, Bill Avery:) Can I just say, they still have that spark together!! Bill asks her permission to close the cafe early so he can cook Dottie dinner. "She is just a friend". "Of course she is". Ha, I love it! And the looks they give each other? Why oh why can't you see reason Abigail :(

Back to the children at school we see lots of arguing between the new girl and the others. Hattie is tired of this stupid town and all the stupid games they play. Elizabeth comes up with the wonderful idea of kindness week. "We are a community and it is time we start acting like one."

Frank and Abigail are in the valley, offering friendship and kindness to the settlers when Abigail hears a young one who just won't stop crying. His name is Oliver and he is running a fever, but his mother can't afford the bills that taking him to a doctor would bring. Frank tells her not to worry about that, and Abigail chimes in that as part of Hope Valley, we take care of each other.

Now enters the big discussion that everyone has been struggling with. Jack is in his office and in comes Faith Carter, the nurse who took care of his brother and most recently, Lee. Jack is the one who is called her there, after talking to Mayor Gowen, and he is trying to find out why she turned down the position at the infirmary. She assures him she likes working there at Hope Valley, but when he asks why she said no, we see the reason she was upset in the previous episode. Her fiance wired her and told her to come back to Union City right away. She wanted to get the infirmary going and wait for when a doctor comes, but her fiance is coming to Hope Valley to take her back. Jack asks her how she feels about it and she says she loves Peter and wants to make him happy but while working in Hope Valley she has felt so alive making a difference.

You can see the emotion in her face and almost the pleading to have Jack make things right. At this point I am unsure of whether she wants him to come in as the knight in shining armor and make everything right, or if she wants his wisdom. I believe he perceives her as a friend and someone he wants to help. He steps forward and starts to say something but at that moment is when Elizabeth opens the door bringing dinner. She is shocked, Jack looks like he is willing her to trust him, and Faith appears embarrassed. But I think it is more embarrassment over what she just told Jack than anything. Faith turns and leaves but not before Jack tells her to talk to Peter about her feelings. Then comes the awkward silence and Elizabeth says she feels like she interrupted something. "She and her fiance are having some problems." "And she came to you to sort them out?" Well yeah, I am her friend." "Doesn't mean I have to like it." "Just for the record, I'm not sure how I feel about Wade Barrett living right next door to you." "Well, he is rather dashing." :D Let me just say that another romantic moment is coming up ;)

Baby Oliver just happens to have an ear infection and will be just fine after Faith has looked after him. Florence is holding court again in the cafe and they are all talking about Kindness Week. Learning manners and behaving properly. Rosie happens to be sitting nearby and pops up with her idea for teaching the children manners. A formal dance where the children would be dressed up, acting all prim and proper. And who better to plan everything than Rosemary! Kindness is contagious you know.

Bill and Jack (who happens to be in his red serge) are walking down main street discussing the sawmill and the accidents which appear to be sabotage. The town needs the mill for the jobs it gives and if the mill were to be closed, it would be a huge blow to the townspeople. Faith stops him and introduces Jack to her fiance, Peter. Peter seems to be the suave type but from the minute I laid eyes on him I knew I wasn't going to like him. He tells Jack what a nice little town he has and Jack responds with how much they appreciate Faith and that they were hoping she might stay on a little. Peter doesn't even let Faith say a word but says that they have to get back home. She has a wedding to plan after all. She won't have to worry about playing Florence Nightingale again. Sorry, but a guy like that is just not my type.

The school children are excited when Elizabeth brings in Rosie to inform them of the upcoming dance. A lot of happy youngsters! All except one, Hattie. Until Rosie informs them they will be practicing for the dance;) When the children are outside playing games we see Hattie being totally rude, even going so far as to throw one of the little girls bears on the ground. She tells Elizabeth that she hates all of them and wants her best friend, Janie. Thankfully Elizabeth gives her punishment and talks to her, trying to find out why she is so hateful towards the others. Hattie doesn't want any friends, she only wants to go back to Hamilton and Janie. This little girl could be so pretty, if only she didn't have such a hateful look on her face. Talk about needing an attitude adjustment! Elizabeth walks down main street, contemplating the best option to take with Hattie when Rosie appears beside her, willing to give her a penny for her thoughts. This is one of the funniest parts of the episode! Rosie keeps complimenting her without realizing how she is also insulting her! "Kindness doesn't mean that a person shouldn't be honest."

When Faith gets done checking up on baby Oliver, Abigail notices that something still seems off with his mother. She pushes in her kind way and finds out that Gowen is up to his old tricks. Raising the rent on the settlers and giving them a short amount of time to come up with the extra money. Let's just say she isn't happy about this. She knows him personally but when she talks to him, he is as arrogant as ever. Heart doesn't belong in business after all. Jack and Abigail both stand up to him and I love it.

Jack walks into his office, only to find Cody on his knees washing Rip with plenty of suds spilling all over. He is such an adorable boy and paired with Rip, it makes for a really cute scene. As Cody leaves though Peter enters to talk with Jack. And at this point I really disliked him. He doesn't come seeking wisdom in how to deal with Faith, he comes demanding Jack talk to her. She respects his opinion and sometimes we know women just need to be told what to do. And this is where Jack stands up to him, doing his duty as a Mountie and as a friend. He advises Peter that if she wants to still be a nurse, she should have that choice. He doesn't see why she can't do both, being a wife and a nurse. Peter gets up to leave, telling Jack that they obviously don't see eye to eye on this. Jack tries one last time, asking him if Faith would be happy giving up what she loves to do. But Peter knows exactly what she needs.

MY PICTURE

Elizabeth goes to visit Hattie's mother and at this point we understand a lot of why she is so upset. The things she has been telling them all weren't exactly true, she was stretching the truth a bit. Sure they lived in a big house, but as servants. Her mother was a governess to Janie, the little girl who was her best friend. And yes I used was intentionally. Because Elizabeth finds out the awful truth that Janie died. She ends up telling Jack all that happened that evening over dinner. letting him know that children are like puzzles and sometimes you have to work really hard to put the pieces together. And we again get to see a romantic touching moment when Jack tells her he believes that she will make a terrific mom one day. "Because I like puzzles?" "Yeah, but most importantly because you make great shepherds pie." He waits for her to respond with something similar to him but she just laughs. "So, isn't this where you are supposed to tell me I am going to make a great dad one day?" "I don't know if that's true." Both their faces drop and I just wanted to comfort Jack at this point. "You don't?" "I've never tried your shepherds pie." Haha!! I literally laughed out loud when she said that! And the look on his face was hysterical.

Bill and Dottie seem to make a forward step in their relationship the night that he cooks dinner for her. They open up a bit, even going so far as a kiss when Bill walks her home. It appeared a bit sudden and I felt like it was a little early in their relationship. Dottie seems nice but I just can't put the two of them together. A lot of chapters in his life are coming to an end and Dottie pushes to find out information on how he still feels about Abigail. This whole part just felt kind of odd.

I will hit on two more parts real quick as this post is getting really long. First will be Elizabeth and the children. She gets all the girls together and throws a surprise party for Hattie. Hattie wants none of it until Elizabeth tells her that she knows about Janie. Wow, I knew Hattie had it in her but she looks so much better with a smile on her face!

MY PICTURE

The dance that is thrown has some touching parts in it but I don't want to give too much away about the ending. Let's just say Rosie ends up wearing this adorable necklace, Jack almost misses out on the first dance with Elizabeth, Elizabeth gets stood up, and Cody might just end up with a close friend.

Lastly, I know everyone is wanting to know what happens with Faith, Peter and Jack. Jack meets Faith at the saloon (thankfully in front of a bunch of people) and gives her some wisdom. Yes she made Peter a promise when she accepted his marriage proposal, but it isn't a promise when it will make her unhappy for the rest of her life. She says that she thought love was supposed to conquer all, and his reply is that it does, if it is really love. This man has some superb wisdom! Even if it does end up with Peter leaving town alone. I am just praying that Faith gives her heart to one of the nice young men in town, leaving Jack and Elizabeth alone. I think she could add a lot to the show.
