Ramona Cecil and Her New Book, Freedom's Crossroad!!

Today we have author Ramona Cecil with us. Her new book, Freedom's Crossroad is going to be the giveaway so make sure you read to the end:)

Thank you for being with us today, Ramona!
How long have you known you wanted to be an author? Since I was a kid. I began writing poetry when I was about four years old. Between the mid 1980's and 1990's, about 90 of my inspirational verses were published by a leading publisher in the inspirational gift market. I didn't venture into novel writing until the mid 1980's and didn't get serious about it until a couple decades later.

Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
My newest book, Freedom's Crossroad, is a three-in-one collection of historical romance stories set in my home state of Indiana. What ties the stories together is that each features a different member of the same family and is set along an Indiana waterway. The first story, Sweet Forever, is set in 1845 in Madison, IN on the banks of the Ohio River. Woven through the plot are riverboats, riverboat gamblers, and the Underground Railroad, all colorful aspects of Madison's heyday. The second story, Everlasting Promise, is set in 1851 along east central Indiana's historic Whitewater Canal. The story deals with the concerns that folks along the canal had with the coming railroad which would eventually replace the canal and doom many of the little towns along its banks. The third story, Charity's Heart, is set in 1866 in Vernon, IN along the winding Muscatatuck River and also has several scenes in Madison. The story deals with the lingering hard feelings from the war between the states. The heroine is a refugee from the war-torn South while the hero is a veteran of the Union army and experienced the horrors of the infamous Confederate prisoner-of-war camp, Andersonville.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
That despite life's worst trials and heartaches we are not alone. God is always with us. He loves us, He wants the best for us, and He has a plan for our lives. We just have to trust Him and be willing to forgive others and sometimes ourselves as well.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I've always wanted to visit the British Isles, especially Ireland. My ancestors on my father's side came from Norther Ireland, so I think visiting there would be more than a wee bit grand. ;o)

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
Jesus and my Grandma Jolly. I look forward to seeing my Lord face to face one day. My grandmother died when I was two, so I don't really remember her. When I was growing up, my dad used to reminisce about my grandma's wonderful light biscuits. I can just picture Jesus, me, and Grandma sitting around talking and enjoying Grandma's biscuits.

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I would love to have been in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress adopted and signed the Declaration of Independence. I can't imagine a greater thrill than to have been present at the birth of our exceptional country.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I don't have the greenest of thumbs, but I like to dabble in a little gardening.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
As a kid I was a tomboy and loved to climb trees. I also had a pet lamb named Daisy.

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Just keep at it, even through the most discouraging times. Pray for God's guidance and timing, continually work to improve, and never give up.

Any last thoughts for your readers?
I cannot express how humbled I am by my readers and how blessed I feel. I can remember a time in the not-too-distant past when just having someone agree to read my stories was a thrill, let alone
have them be willing to pay to do so. My passions are sharing the truths of God's word, writing sweet stories of romance, and learning about history---especially Indiana history. I pray that my stories bring Indiana's history alive for my readers while thrilling their hearts with tales of sweet romance and stirring their souls with the truths of God's Word.
And how can they connect with you?
I invite my readers to visit my web site at www.ramonakcecil.com. They can also e-mail me at writeheart@cinergymetro.net.
I would also like to thank you, Charity, for featuring me and my book on your blog. I alway love meeting new people, and appearing on blogs like yours is a great way to do that.

Unfortunately I don't have either of my grandmothers any longer. Lost my dad's mom when I was only 4 so really don't remember her at all and my mom's mom I was 21. I do remember enjoying going over to visit grandma and spending the night with her. She had a piano that I would like to sit at and play. Not that I knew how!

Blessings,
Jo

Both of my grandmothers are deceased but my Grannie (Dad's Mom) was the one I was closest to. I would spend 2 or more weeks with her each summer and help her spring clean. Then we would catch the bus and go to movie down town or just shop a little or window shop. One movie I remember was 7 yr Itch with Marilyn Monroe. Long time ago.

Unfortunately I lost my paternal grandmother about 15 years ago, and now our family just isn't the same. My grandma held it together so to speak. She loved and welcomed anyone and everyone into her home, step-children, half-siblings, etc. She always got down on her hands and knees and played with her grandchildren. Most of my best childhood memories have her in them. Now that she is gone, most of our family doesn't even talk to each other, for some reason everyone seems to be predjudiced towards the second wives, step-children, etc....and I just think it is so sad. I think that all kids should be accepted and treated the same, no matter what, no matter whose they are, no matter what color they are or their hair is and that is what I teach my kids.

One of my grandmothers is gone on to heaven, but I was blessed to be able to care for her for a year before she left and had the most wonderful time with her. My other grandmother is an amazing woman! I love hanging out with her! She lives far away so i do not get to see her much, but she is so much fun! During WW2, she invented plans for tools they used to build all the planes and other things. she invented the tool to make the expandable watch band as well...she was paid more than most women working at that time! martha(at)lclink(dot)com

Both of my grandmothers have died, but I remember my father's mother. She was a quiet person, a hard worker (she was a seamstress for a laundry) and she was a really good cook!

My grandma passed away April 1, 2005. I was not very close to her because my dad didn't have a good relationship with her. My mother and I don't have a good relationship but I refuse to let that affect my kids feelings towards her.

Before I saw what the comments were about, I thought about something my Grandmother said. She would have said the these Christian themed books that are being wrote now was better than sliced bread. She has been gone a long time. At ten years old my granddaddy died and I came to live with her until I married. She was more of a mother than grandmother. My dad was in the Air Force and he and my mom traveled al lot. I was the only older grandchild, so it was decided that I would be the one to go hone to live with Grandmother, but it was my dad and mom who instilled the love for books in me. Both of them read a lot but I read all the time. I took a book to read at lunch when I worked and I never went out of the house without at least two in my purse. Now I am disabled and my daughter takes me to the local libary each week and I get eight books to read. I try to win as many as I can. That is all I do now is read but my eyes are getting so it is harder to read for long periods of time and the autiobook are super also. When I lost my Grandmother I did lose my best friend She was never a friend she was my granny the was she should have been. Parents need to be parents not friends to their children. Let them pick their friends somewhere else. Thanks ybutler@oppcatv.com

I've enjoyed reading all the comments. I loved all the heartwarming reminiscences of the readers' grandmother. I'm glad I got to know my maternal grandmother for the first ten years of my life. Now that I'm a grandmother, I hope my own grandchildren have fond memories of their time with me. I would like to wish everyone good luck in winning a copy of Freedom's Crossroad.

Blessings, Ramona Cecil

My grandmother passed away many years ago. I hate to say it, but she always reminded me of the character ma kettle. She had 13 children, had a working farm, and could do anything.
