We actually have two author interviews today!! And that means two giveaways for books!! The first one is Vanvetta Chapman. She will be sending the winner a copy of her new book, A Simple Amish Christmas. You can also pre-order her book even though it won't officially be releasing until October 1st. This sounds like a very neat book:)
Thank you for being with us today, Vannetta! How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
Actually I hadn't really thought about it until I finished graduate school (at the age of 36). That's where I really learned a love of language and first decided God might want to use my abilities in that field to help others.
Can you tell me a little bit about your newest book?
A Simple Amish Christmas is a bit different from your typical Amish romance. I wanted to write a story about a young woman who loved her faith, loved her community, but still had a longing to learn more. That was the basis for Annie Weaver, who moves to Philadelphia to live with her aunt, earns her high school equivalency, and then her RN and begins working at the local hospital. When she is called home to take care of her father, she must find a way to re-integrate into the faith and the community that she loves . . . but she still wants to use the skills and talents God has given her.
When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
God has given each of us talents and placed us where we need to be, where we can use them and where our own needs can be met as well. We can trust His plans, because He cares about us more than we can imagine.
Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
I want to visit EVERYWHERE. My father was a traveler, and I'm afraid I've inherited that gene. Fortunately my husband loves to hike, so we try to take at least one major hiking trip per year. On my dream list is Alaska, Europe, and Yosemite National Park.
If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
Oh, my. That's a hard question. Do they have to be living on this earth right now? If I could have dinner with two people it would definitely be my father and my grandparents. I miss them so much, and they had such an influence on my life. I know that's cheating and not what you were asking--but it's my answer and I'm sticking to it!
What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
Your questions are hard! I would love to be in America before the roads were laid down--to see what our country looked like while it was still wild. My grandfather was one half Choctaw and actually grew up on a reservation in Oklahoma. I would like to see what his gradparents' life was like.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I have a lot of hobbies, if I had to pick a favorite I'd pick playing the piano or hiking (oops, that's two).
Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
I don't eat white foods (people who eat with me know that).
Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Believe in yourself, be willing to work hard, and don't give up.
Any last thoughts for your readers?
I think the highest compliment you can pay an author is to read their book. I realize you have many, many books to choose from--many forms of entertainment vying for your attention. When you choose a book instead, it's very encouraging to me. So, I'd just like to say thank you, and ask you to pass it along to someone else when you're done with it. While that might mean one less sale for me, it also means one more person touched by my writing, and hopefully the message God has asked me to place in that story.
And how can they connect with you?
and of course I'm on facebook and myspace.

I don't have a specific favourite Amish author. My favourite Amish book is the anthology "An Amish Christmas" by Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Barbara Cameron. :)
