Vacation on the Beach!!

Ahh, it is getting to be that time of year when you think of taking a vacation. Maybe that one you take every year around spring break, or summer vacation? Where do you all plan on going this time around:) I don't like going to the big cities, other than on occasion we head to Chicago for a nice break. I prefer the great outdoors or the beach area. You know the place you can go rent some beach cruisers and ride along the ocean front? Or spend your afternoons building sand castles with the kids? I personally like the feel of riding bikes around. We ride quite a bit here around town and while we don't always bring our bikes along with us, most places allow you to rent bikes or the big Beach Cruisers. You gotta love those big tires and well padded seats!!

For me, bike riding is a great way to have fun with the family at any age. Believe me, we have had a 6 month old in one of the carriers that attaches to the back of your bike. And then for a while we had those tot totes which hook up and we would take off for an afternoon of enjoyment. There were times we took 5 or 6 mile rides and then had lunch and got back on again. The kids love it and once they get their training wheels, there is normally no stopping them.

But I also like the health benefits you can get from bike riding. For one thing it is supposed to be very easy on your feet and legs, as compared to running. No hitting the hard pavement and pounding your legs, even though that is good on some days. It also helps the kids get active. In this day and age of playing games and sitting inside, biking is a wonderful way to get out of doors and getting the whole family involved. It doesn't have to be a marathon or anything, but just a bike around town can do wonders for your health.

So how do you get the whole family involved in exercise? And hey, going on vacation anywhere soon? Tell us all about it in the comments below!!
