Digging into the Nuts and Bolts of Cars

Everyone needs a passion in life. For some, that passion is their yard. For others, the outdoors, along with hunting and fishing, are a passion. However, for some people, cars are their passion. Cars can be fascinating. When you learn all about cars, how they work, and the difference in them, it is easy to desire more info on them.

Taking a Passion for Cars to a New Level

When people have a strong passion for cars, from the everyday cars on the road today to those of the past, some cannot simply settle to learn about them. When it gets to this point, people tend to get into restoring cars, building kit cars, and then showing them in the car shows in the area. This is a great hobby for those that have a love of cars.

How to Learn More about Cars for Beginners

If you are not ready to build a car and head for the car show, but simply want to learn more about how cars work, do some research using the Internet. There is a lot of good information out there on the Internet. Not only can digging into the details of a car help you learn more about how a car works, but also it can help you understand what might be wrong with your own car when there are problems. That is a powerful feeling to have ideas of what is wrong with your car and to know how to check things out. This also empowers you when dealing with auto mechanics that are going to work on your car.

The Change from Mechanical to Computer Driven

When cars first began, they were entirely mechanical in nature. Everything operated in a mechanical fashion. However, that is not the case today. There are now many computers, if you will, on board a standard car. There are many reasons why they exist, but they also make it more difficult for the novice to understand how cars work. For example, all cars used to have linkage between the gas pedal and a carburetor. That is not always the case now. Sometimes, the gas pedal really connects to a computer, which tells the fuel injection to open more or less. There is a lot more info to learn about cars today than there was back in the glory days of the backyard mechanic.

Purex Laundry Sheets Review and 3 Winner #Giveaway!!

How many of you use fabric softener sheets in your dryer? For the longest time I never used dryer sheets. It was just one of those things I had never used. But since becoming a Purex Insider, I have been able to review their dryer sheets twice so when this opportunity popped up, I jumped at the chance. These are the new and improved formula sheets and the scents are oh so lovely!! Before you enter for your chance at a free coupon, please read my review and check out what I thought.

My kit arrived with a box of the fabric softener sheets and three coupons to giveaway to my readers. Before I even opened my kit I could smell the sweet lavender wafting from the mail. I am sure my Fedex driver loved the scent filling his truck:) But it is very aromatic and I knew I was going to enjoy using these. The sheets come in Sweet Lavender and Mountain Breeze and I am sure they both smell just as good.

I started a load of laundry that same day, with 8 in the family the hamper is always full, and I couldn't wait to try the dryer sheets out. I was worried about one thing. One of the girls has very sensitive skin and often breaks out with a rash depending on the products we use in the laundry. I wasn't sure how her skin would react to these sheets as they seemed very strong from the scent. But I wanted to try them out as the other Purex products don't bother her. I used one sheet for our large load and threw it in the dryer.

When I opened the dryer I couldn't believe the smell!! It was so strong and made me feel like I was walking through a field of lavender! Now these sheets aren't only for the scent but also for removing lint and I was very impressed. They made the clothing smell great and I didn't see a speck of lint on them. We don't have a lot of trouble with lint but having dogs in the house sometimes causes fur to be on the clothes. The next test was to see how M. did with the clothing and if she reacted. Normally she will break out within an hour or so of touching something. And she never reacted to this!! This shows me how soft it is and that the new formula works great.

Readers, I have 3 coupons for giveaway. Three readers will win one coupon each. This is for a totally free box of Dryer Sheets!! I will definitely be purchasing these in the future and I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I have. This giveaway will end 8/13. Winners will be chosen through Random.org and they will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Rebecca Baxt Launches the Latest in Acne-Fighting Skincare:
BAXT Cosmedical Acne Kit Level I & II

Acne is one of the most common dermatologic conditions, affecting millions of individuals in the United States.  It’s a common skin condition that affects most people, to a varying degree, during their teen years.  However, acne is by no means restricted to teenagers - adults in their 20's and 30's and 40’s are also susceptible to acne.  Many effective forms of therapy and medications have been developed to help in the process of eliminating and preventing acne.  If a patient suffers from acne, they no longer have to settle with the appearance of their skin because quality topical treatment is available.

“Acne isn’t something one can outgrow with age,” says Dr. Rebecca Baxt, New Jersey/New York board certified dermatologist and assistant professor of clinical dermatology at the New York University School of Medicine.  “Years of untreated acne can leave a lifelong imprint on a person's face and can have an effect on self-image.  While acne may not be curable, it is usually controllable and preventable.”

What is Acne?
Normal skin contains oil glands under the skin, which produce an oily substance called sebum. The sebum moves from the bottom to the top of each hair follicle and then spills out onto the surface of the skin, taking with it sloughed-off skin cells. When a person develops acne, the structure in which the sebum flows gets plugged up. This blockage traps the sebum and sloughed off cells below the skin, preventing them from being released onto the skin's surface.  If a patient's pore's opening is fully blocked, a whitehead will be produced and if the pore's opening is open, a blackhead is created. If a whitehead or blackhead becomes inflamed, they can turn into red pustules or papules.

Colleen Coble’s “Rosemary Cottage” Nautical Summer Giveaway

Amy came to Rosemary Cottage to grieve, to heal, maybe even find love. But there’s a deadly undertow of secrets around Hope Island….

The charming Rosemary Cottage on the beach offers Amy Lange respite she needs to mourn her brother, Ben. She’s even thinking of moving her midwife practice to the Outer Banks community. It’s always been a refuge for her and her family. She also wants to investigate Ben’s disappearance at sea. Everyone blames a surfing accident, but Amy has reason to wonder.
Coast Guard officer Curtis Ireland has lost a sibling too. His sister, Gina, was run down by a boat, leaving him to raise her infant daughter. If anyone knew who little Raine’s father was, Curtis could lose his beloved niece. Yet he can’t help being drawn to Hope Beach’s new midwife, Amy. He even agrees to help her investigate what happened to both Ben and Gina.
Can two grieving people with secrets find healing on beautiful Hope Island? Or will their quest for truth set them at odds with each other…and with those who will go to any length to keep hidden things hidden?

MY THOUGHTS-Rosemary Cottage is one of those stories that pulls you right in to the lives of the characters. It opens with a murder and continues on with mystery, car bombing, suspense, romance and even some new births! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I am sure you will too.

This is the second book in a series and I have read the first one, Tidewater Inn. I am not sure I would label this as a stand-alone novel as there are a lot of characters, but it could be read by itself. Definitely makes more sense when you have read the first one though. I thoroughly enjoy Colleen's writing style and this one was no exception. You feel like you are there on the beach and smelling the earth as they plant their garden. Or hearing Raine babble away:) Of course, you can also feel the heat after the car bomb! I am telling you, this is a very realistic book.

As I hinted above there is a lot of suspense. I kept thinking I had things figured out and then Colleen would throw in another twist. And the bad guy is the ultimate catch. I so wanted to pop this person in the face. And then you have the whole mixup with siblings. You see, Amy and Curtis are both thrown together when their siblings die. Or so they are told? Like I said, Colleen can spin some stories that leave you in the lurch. If you enjoy a sweet romance with a lot of mystery and suspense, give this one a try. You will be glad you did!

THE NAUTICAL SUMMER GIVEAWAY DETAILS!

Water can be calming and healing, but it can also be dangerous, as Amy Lange and Curtis Ireland both found out. Both lost their siblings to the sea, and they hope to find healing on Hope Island. But will they find it, or will their quest to find answers set them at odds with each other and with those who have secrets that need to stay hidden?

Find out in Colleen Coble’s latest book, Rosemary Cottage, which released July 9. To celebrate, Colleen is hosting a 12-day Nautical Summer Giveaway. A Bride for All Seasons | 12-Day Unexpected Packages Giveaway! Enter today.

It All Started with an Ad in a Mail Order Bride Catalogue…

Melvin Hitchcock of the Hitching Post Mail Order Bride Catalog isn’t dishonest—not exactly. If he tweaks his clients’ applications a bit, it’s because he’s looking out for their best interests.
This charming bouquet of novellas introduces four Hitching Post prospects in the year 1870, each one eager for second chances . . . and hungry for happiness. Year in, year out, they’ll learn that love often comes in unexpected packages.
And Then Came Spring by Margaret Brownley
Mary-Jo has been unlucky all her life. But who would guess she’d travel halfway across the country to meet her match . . . only to find him dead!
An Ever-After Summer by Debra Clopton
Ellie had no idea she’s not what Matthew ordered. And what’s wrong with being a “Bible thumper” anyway? She’s determined to show him she’s tougher than she looks—and just the girl he needs.
Autumn’s Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher
Luvena would be perfect for Clay if she didn’t come with kids. But kids are a deal breaker, especially in a rough-and-trouble mining town. The trouble is, there’s no money to send them back. . .
Winter Wedding Bells by Mary Connealy
David’s convinced he’s not long for the world. He needs someone to mother his boys when he’s gone—nothing more. Can plucky Irish Megan convince him to work at living instead of dying?

MY REVIEW-When I saw the storyline for this book, I just knew I had to read it. I mean, who wouldn't want to read a book about 4 different women who became mail order brides? Especially when there are some mistakes that happen and they people they really are gets mixed up. So when this one arrived for review, I plunged right in:)

My favorite story was probably Autumn's Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher, but they were all a hoot to read. This four-in-one really delves into the life of a woman who responds to a mail order bride ad. I can't imagine going to marry someone who I have never met and yet these women all wanted a change, adventure or maybe a new life and so off they went. Of course, it doesn't help when the ad becomes changed around with some help from the editor. It can make for some very funny results! A man who wants nothing to do with a believer and yet he gets stuck with a Bible thumper:) And there are a couple more funny disasters that arise as well.

Overall this was a great book. The stories all varied by the author but I think they flowed well. It wasn't choppy like some 4-in-1 novels I have read. It made you want to read through to the end and see how they all got arranged. Some great happily ever afters in here!

M's Thoughts on A Big Year for Lily with Blog Tour!

Get ready for more fun and friendship with Lily!

Every day brings new adventures for Lily! With cousin Hannah at her side, life is filled with surprises--including a rotten school trick played on her by Effie Kauffman and a surprising change of heart in the worst boy imaginable, Aaron Yoder. But tears turn to laughter as Lily turns ten, wears grown-up clothes, sits with her friends at church . . . and turns the tables on Effie.

You'll adore this tale of love, laughter, forgiveness, and ties that bind an Amish family together.

M'S REVIEW-I really liked reading this next Lily book. It shows her growing up and having birthdays. My favorite character is Lily but I also like Hannah and Dannie. I didn't like Effie at all because she is so mean. I also like the little drawings in the book. I can't wait to see if there is another book in this series!

MY THOUGHTS-Once again I was able to request this book for review for M. She is 12, almost 13, and loves this series of books about Lily. I think part of her likes being able to read a book that appears grown up and another part of her enjoys finding out more about the Amish. I skimmed this book real quick as of M. snatched it up the minute it came in:) And she has actually read this twice since it arrived. I enjoy this series for a couple reasons. The main reason though is that it not only gives M the opportunity to learn about a totally different culture but it also gives me the freedom to let her read books without having to worry about things that are in there too adult for her. I also like that they are short chapters which makes  it easier for her to read. She may be a little bit old for them, but I don't think she will be outgrowing them for a while:) Great series!!

Available July 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

Dolled up to Die Blog Tour! Funny Mystery!!

Cate's not sure just what she expected . . . but she knows it certainly wasn't this.

When Cate Kinkaid receives a frantic call about a triple homicide, she drives to the scene against her better judgment--aren't triple homicides more up the police department's alley?--only to find that the victims are not quite who she expects. Now she has a new rule to add to everything she's learned in her short stint as an assistant private investigator: always find out if the victims have human DNA. Because these three do not.

But who would shoot this nice lady's dolls? What possible reason could the shooter have? And then there's the startling discovery of another victim, who definitely does have human DNA . . .

With tension that is matched only by humor, Dolled Up to Die is the exciting second book in Lorena McCourtney's Cate Kinkaid Files. You won't find a place to stop and take a breath in this fast-paced story.

MY REVIEW-I have personally loved the humor infused in Lorena McCourtney's novels. And Dolled Up to Die was no different. I was really hoping things didn't get creepy but I needn't have worried:) This was totally funny and good for your health. You know as in a merry heart.

If you have read the previous book in the series you will know many of the characters. This is a book that I would urge you to read in order, mainly so you know who the people are. This one opens with Cate getting a call that three people have been shot but the police aren't going out to check. And anyone who knows Cate knows that she can't resist a mystery. So off she goes only to arrive and find that they are dolls? Life-like dolls but still dolls. And so the mystery jumps off from there. You have sweet Jo-Jo, smart and handsome Mitch, mature and funny Donna and let's not forget Octavia. You can't forget a cat who adds such spark to the novel!

Overall I really loved this book. You have humor and mystery all rolled into one book that keeps you reading through to the end. Cate makes for a good assistant PI even though there were times I wanted to smack her and show her something. Sometimes she is a bit dense:) One part I really liked was where Mitch is witnessing to Celeste. It isn't pushy but it definitely gets a good Christian witness in there. This is something I would feel comfortable giving to anybody and would almost label it as a cozy mystery. Excellent and can't wait for the next book in the series!

Available August 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

Design Apparel and Crowdfund with Teespring!

Hey everyone!! Today I have an interesting post for you. How many of you have ever participated in a fundraiser where people purchase shirts, hats, etc? If any of you have, do you remember how difficult it is to interest people in buying these? Or even worse, getting them to pay for their purchases? Well, that is not the case anymore with Teespring! This is the ultimate in crowdfunded custom apparel.

Basically with this site you set up a campaign, spread the word and then collect your profit. Now in detail there is a lot to go over. But I was amazed at how easy this was and how quickly a campaign can be set up. You can pick the quality of the shirt, set a price, and then click go and you are set! Other than trying to get more people interested that is. The main reason I like Teespring is that people pay the price up front. No waiting and hoping somebody pays for their shirt. And you don't have to feel like you are constantly bothering people when they haven't paid and you have a bunch of shirts waiting around.

Personally I would love doing these for a group event. I think matching designs look snazzy and they often stand out. And the great thing with this website is people in the group can pick out different colors and sizes without a problem!

Whether you need this for a fundraiser or an event, there is no risk about losing money. You pick the amount, the quality and the dates you want the campaign to run and you are in the clear. I totally love the idea behind this! Check out Teespring if you are looking at an shirts for a group or an upcoming event!

In Golden Splendor CFBA Tour!!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

In Golden Splendor

• B&H Books (July 15, 2013)

by

Michael Reynolds

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michael K. Reynolds is the writer and producer of Emmy and Telly Award-winning film campaigns and has more than two decades of experience in fiction, journalism, copywriting, and documentary production. He owns Global Studio, a marketing agency, and is also an active leader in church and business, speaking in both ministry and corporate settings. Michael lives with his wife and three children in Reno, Nevada.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Irish immigrant Seamus Hanley is a lost soul, haunted by his past as a U.S. Army deserter and living alone in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in 1849. But after witnessing a deadly stage coach crash, he finds purpose in the scattered wreckage -- a letter with a picture of a beautiful and captivating woman named Ashlyn living in San Francisco at the height of the Gold Rush.
Moved by her written plea for help, he abandons all and sets out on an epic journey across the wild and picturesque American frontier. While being pursued by those who want to hang him, Seamus encounters fascinating characters including a young Pauite Indian who makes the ultimate sacrifice in helping Seamus to cross the snowy Yosemite Valley.
Battered but changed for the better, Seamus reaches San Francisco on Christmas Eve as the city burns in the tragic fire of 1849. But there is little time for rest, as an even greater, more harrowing adventure involving Ashlyn is about to begin.

If you would like to read the first chapter of In Golden Splendor, go HERE

MY REVIEW-I was honored to be able to review the first book in this series, Flight of the Earls. And I knew then that I was hooked! Michael Reynolds weaves a story that draws you in and leaves you enthralled. I have to admit, I am a lover of all things Irish so that might have a little bit to do with it, but that definitely isn't everything. These characters are people who have flaws and real life problems. They struggle with things we might be facing and that makes me love them. Of course not all of them as you have to have a couple people to dislike. But overall a great book that leaves you wanting more. Can't wait for the next book in the series, Songs of the Shenandoah.
