Hidden in the Stars by Robin Caroll

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Hidden in the Stars

Abingdon Press (September 16, 2014)

by

Robin Caroll

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born and raised in Louisiana, Robin Caroll is a southerner through and through. Her passion has always been to tell stories to entertain others. Robin’s mother, bless her heart, is a genealogist who instilled in Robin the deep love of family and pride of heritage—two aspects Robin weaves into each of her books.

When she isn’t writing, Robin spends time with her husband of twenty-plus years, her 3 beautiful daughters, 2 precious grandsons, and their character-filled pets at home—in the South, where else?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Following an attack that killed her mother and stole her ability to speak, 21-year-old Sophia Montgomery has no choice but to accept her estranged grandmother’s offer to return to their family home. Although detective Julian Frazier is working hard on the case, Sophia unknowingly frustrates him because her inability to speak thwarts her eyewitness evidence. The fact that Julian is undeniably attracted to Sophia doesn’t help either, so Julian hides his feelings as concern for a trauma victim and focuses instead on finding the killer.

Little do they know, the clues to solving the case may be right in front of them, displayed in Sophia’s mother’s “special” quilt design. Who will realize the secret Sophia’s unwittingly been hiding in plain sight? When the truth comes to light, will Sophia find her voice again? Or will the murderer—still at large—silence her forever?

Kindle HDX Giveaway and Live Webcast Event with @MaryConnealy!

Tried and True, Book One in the Wilde at Heart series.

Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!
Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister–and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk–they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”–but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.
Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

MY REVIEW-I am a lover of historical fiction, but also comedy type books. And Mary Connealy fits both in her novels. This one is actually my favorite out of all her books!! It is the first one in a new series but I just love it:)

The plot of this series is three women who have at some point been in disguise. The heroine of this one was in the Civil War as a man. Nobody ever discovered that she wasn't male and now she has gotten the benefits of being a soldier but the land agent wants to take that away. Needless to say, he also falls in love with Kylie from the beginning so that makes things hard. Oh, and the whole reason she wants to get done and head back east conflicts with him wanting to get away to a secluded mountain area and live like a hermit. Their first meeting is quite funny and I love the part where he is waiting for her brother to appear. It is a typical spunky heroine who feels like she can do just about anything and don't need no man!! But Aaron quickly tries to dissuade her from that feeling.

Another excellent story from Mary and my favorite by far!! Can't wait to read the rest of them about Kylie's sisters!!

A Film for the Whole Family! Releasing Tomorrow! Hero DVD Review & #Giveaway!

A father’s broken relationship with his family fills him with determination to win back the son he left behind.  Reaching out through the game they both love, he deliberately forms a baseball team designed to reconnect both fathers and sons, transforming their town in the process.  The story shows how one good man can lead change in his community for the common good.

MY THOUGHTS-It isn't often that I give full approval on a film now a days. I have seen way too many that I have problems with or I can't give it 5 stars. Hero is a movie about a father who has been absent in his families life until one day something tragic happens. So he returns, only to find a very bitter son who thinks his father deserted them.

The filming is done very well and doesn't look like some that I have seen. Looks professional and the acting was excellent as well. The biggest part of this to me were the lessons involved that would be great for any family to learn. We see a man who failed his family when they needed him the most, and he knows it. Sometimes his attitude was great and other times it wasn't. His son, who isn't a little boy but a young man, has a lot of trouble when he sees his father there for the other boys on the ball team but he remembers him not being there for himself. It is a hard situation to deal with but I loved how it was worked out. Everything isn't all rosy and they have rough patches to overcome. I like the outlook portrayed in that ball isn't the whole goal, but the lessons that can be taken away from the game.

I think my favorite character would be either the older coach(always there with words of wisdom, even for the father) or the youngest little boy on the team. His father is in prison but he wants to help his son. There are so many layers to this movie and I was close to tears once. Needless to say the whole family enjoyed the film including the little girls. So this isn't just for the guys! There is one time that a term is used that we don't use in our house, but it wasn't anything major. Otherwise great for the whole family!!

Now, any of you interested in winning a copy for yourself? Be sure to enter through the Rafflecopter form! One copy to a winner in the US ONLY. Winner will be chosen through Random.org and will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen. Giveaway ends 9/29.

Raina's Choice by Gilbert Morris Book #Review!

When a mysterious stranger, Ty Kincaid, arrives in her town from Mexico, headed for Arkansas by way of the riverboats, Raina Vernay s mind starts churning a plan to escape her brutal brother-in-law and locate the father she s never know. Ty just might be her ticket to Indian Territory and freedom. . . . Then Ty lands himself in jail, and Raina has to wonder if this wanted man is any use to her. She needs a hero. Can she find him in Ty?

MY REVIEW-Gilbert Morris is one of those authors you expect to be around forever. You grew up reading his books and yet he still has new books coming out. And his newest one, Raina's Choice, is the third book in the Western Justice series and while I have read some of his newer ones, this one I think was really good.

The book opens with two men in a Mexican prison. They haven't done anything wrong, but got stuck in the wrong place during a revolution. One of them expects to die, while the other is hanging onto the assurance that God is in control and will get them out. Ty Kincaid is the one who is just waiting to die. He is ill and the Mexicans don't care, they just work the prisoners until they give out and then bury them. But his friend Jim has bribed the guards to help them escape. Which happens but at the expense of Jim's life.

Raina is the heroine. Strong and yet vulnerable she is constantly fighting off her brother-in-law. He is such a jerk and I really wanted to slap him. Raina has tried running away from him once already but the sheriff caught her and brought her back. She is forced to help wait on tables at the saloon when a young man wanders in who is different from the rest. Yep, you guessed it:) Ty is the man who is polite and kind to her. But he also gets put in jail when the corrupt sheriff arrests him. So Raina boldly offers to help him break out of jail if he will help her escape her brother-in-law.

The storyline is really good and I loved how the escape and romance isn't the whole book. We see Raina as she searches for her father along with a lot of history. That is one of my favorite parts of Gilbert Morris books is the historical figures we get to meet. Love the western theme! Another excellent book from Gilbert Morris!

“Love & Cupcakes” Kindle Giveaway and Facebook Party from @BetsyStAmant!

Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

At twenty-six years old, Kat is still living in the shadows of her family in Bayou Bend, Louisiana. Still working shifts at her Aunt Maggie's bakery. Still wondering what to do with her passion for baking and her business degree. And still single.

But when Lucas Brannen, Kat's best friend, signs her up for a reality TV bake-off on Cupcake Combat, everything Kat ever wanted is suddenly dangled in front of her: creative license as a baker, recognition as a visionary . . . and a job at a famous bakery in New York.

As the competition heats up, Lucas realizes he might have made a huge mistake. As much as he wants the best for Kat, the only thing he wants for himself---her---is suddenly in danger of slipping away.

The bright lights of reality cooking wars and the chance at a successful career dazzle Kat's senses and Lucas is faced with a difficult choice: help his friend achieve her dreams . . . or sabotage her chances to keep her in Louisiana.

    Purchase a copy: http://ow.ly/AZIVZ

MY REVIEW-This was my first full-size novel by Betsy St Amant that I have ever read. And I have to tell you, I AM HUNGRY FOR A CUPCAKE! The recipes and all the baking Kat does has me drooling. I am so glad that Betsy included a recipe in the back for the Raspberry Lemonade Torte Cupcakes. Definitely going to be trying these out:)

The whole plot for this story was a good one. Two people who have known each other forever, best of friends, but they both want more and are afraid to bring it up or it will get weird. Kat is a baker in her aunt's cupcake shop but wants more from her life. She is a jazzy baker, always experimenting with new concoctions and most of the people love it. But her family doesn't see the use in going outside the lines of plain ole vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The team coach is Lucas. He also happens to be her best coach and he thinks the world of her. Always there to encourage her and help eat her new cupcakes. But when he signs her up for a baking contest without telling her, things go from good to bad. He doesn't want her out of his life but he wants to encourage her to live out her dreams. And she thinks he is pushing her away from him.

The book is overflowing with lessons and teaching all wrapped up and mixed in so sweetly you don't even realize it until it is over. I really fell in love with Lucas. His life hasn't been a joy ride and what he sees as helping Kat often sees as controlling. I think they both learned and grew together. There was one spot that I felt pushed the boundaries a little when Kat and Lucas are in a hotel room. Nothing happens but it almost does, and I felt this could have been changed a little bit. One of those kissing moments that leads to more. Darren and his text messages were a great addition to the book. He is smart and has a lot of wisdom. Overall a good book that I was immediately pulled into. Wonderful story!

    Dolphin Tale 2 Releasing Friday + #Giveaway! #DolphinTale2 #HomeschoolDay2014 #WinterHasHope

I personally have not seen Dolphin Tale 2. Nor the first one:) But I have it on my watch list after reading up on it. Sounds like a really good inspirational film that teaches minor lessons that impact children in a big way. And for me, this is a big part in the entertainment we put in front of our young people. Sure I want them to have a good time and laugh, but I also enjoy when a program or a movie reinforces what is taught at home.

Dolphin Tale 2 will be releasing on Friday the 12th. Yep, tomorrow!! I can't wait to see how it turns out! And did you know, there is a homeschool curriculum based on this film? I had no idea it was this big or that people who homeschool had taken such an interest in it. We homeschool and use a specific course, but I would be interested in seeing how this one is.

So is anyone wanting some Dolphin Tale 2 swag?? I have a pack to giveaway to one of my readers!! You will receive the same items I did. A t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses. But not just any old shirt and glasses. These are all Dolphin Tale themed!! How sweet is that? This giveaway is for US only and ends 9/26. Winner will be chosen using Random.org and will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

CFBA Tour for Thief of Glory by Sigmund Brouwer

    This week, the

    Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

    is introducing

    Thief of Glory

    WaterBrook Press (August 19, 2014)

    by

    Sigmund Brouwer

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sigmund Brouwer is the best-selling author of nearly thirty novels, with close to 4 million books in print. Based on his inspiration for Thief of Glory, which Sigmund wrote as a way to learn and honor the his parent’s stories, especially of his father’s boyhood in a Japanese concentration camp, Sigmund leads The Chapters of Our Lives memoir seminars across the United States and Canada. Sigmund is married to recording artist Cindy Morgan and has two daughters.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

A boy coming of age in a time of war…
the love that inspires him to survive.

For ten year-old Jeremiah Prins, the life of privilege as the son of a school headmaster in the Dutch East Indies comes crashing to a halt in 1942 after the Japanese Imperialist invasion of the Southeast Pacific. Jeremiah takes on the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings when his father and older stepbrothers are separated from the rest of the family, and he is surprised by what life in the camp reveals about a woman he barely knows—his frail, troubled mother.

Amidst starvation, brutality, sacrifice and generosity, Jeremiah draws on all of his courage and cunning to fill in the gap for his mother. Life in the camps is made more tolerable as Jeremiah’s boyhood infatuation with his close friend Laura deepens into a friendship from which they both draw strength.

When the darkest sides of humanity threaten to overwhelm Jeremiah and Laura, they reach for God’s light and grace, shining through his people. Time and war will test their fortitude and the only thing that will bring them safely to the other side is the most enduring bond of all.

    SheerCover #FlawlessFinish Cosmetics #Review @SheerCover

I am not the type of girl who often wears makeup. I always wear some lip balm or gloss, maybe some blush and on occasion I will go all out to put on the whole deal. But I think after trying out the new SheerCover I received, I just might be wearing this all the time:) Check out my review but also make sure to enter the contest that ends tonight!!

I received several products for review. I think the foundation might be a tad bit darker than I normally wear but in all, I was impressed with how it turned out:) Take a look at the pictures and then see my thoughts below.

As you can see from the pictures, the foundation is for sure darker than my normal skin color. I am pretty pale and light while this darkened me up some. But the makeup was super easy to apply and one thing I liked was the booklet they sent with tips, how-to pictures, etc. The products themselves worked great. I used very little bronzer/blush and the products for your eyes work wonders! I love how long it made my lashes. People often comment that my lashes are long but this really gave them length. I think my favorite product out of them all was the conceal trio. I struggle with acne a lot so I often have little spots. This covered them quite well and I was amazed at how easy it was to conceal.

Overall these were great products! I loved working with this wonderful company and for those of you who wear makeup, I would urge you to check them out. Also, SheerCover is having this amazing giveaway where the winner received a year's supply of makeup! Be sure to go enter as it ends this evening!

Until twenty-three-year-old Libby knocks on his door, asking for a job and claiming to be a friend of his late wife. When he discovers Libby is actually his late wife’s illegitimate daughter, given up for adoption without his knowledge, his life is turned upside down as he struggles to accept that the wife he’d given saint status to was not the woman he thought he knew.

MY REVIEW-This is probably the first book I have ever read by Gina Holmes. And I am now a dedicated fan;) Driftwood Tides follows the story of Libby, a young woman who unexpectedly finds out that she is adopted, and the life she has known over the last 24 years is not really true. All this comes right before her wedding so things are thrown into chaos as she tries tracking down her birth mother.

I found the characters to be oh so flawed but so very true to real life. Holton has turned to the bottle ever since his wife died and we see some moral issues that are portrayed as realistic. I don't agree with the decisions made but I also know how young people are and what goes through the mind of a teenager. I found Caroline(Libby's adoptive mother) to be harsh but I also was drawn to her for some reason. I guess behind all the anger and sharp tongue you see the silent need to be loved and to be needed. Rob is Libby's fiance and I went from liking him to disliking him and then liking him again.

This was a wonderful book that makes you think. I get tired sometimes of reading a romance book that doesn't really give strong lessons. This one had some great lessons in it but it wasn't preachy. Excellent book!!
