Love on the Slopes by Elizabeth Goddard Book #Review

LOVE ON THE SLOPES

SHANNON DE CROIX HAD BIG PLANS
But a serious injury ended her dreams of making the nation’s top ski team. Now, with her handsome coach, Hudson Landers, at her side, Shannon hopes to compete again. But though she trusts Hudson’s judgment, she wants to train harder.
Hudson cares too much about Shannon to let her risk her life just for the sake of competition. He fears that one more fall could destroy her future and break her heart. Can Shannon and the disabled kids he coaches show him that falling down and getting back up again is what faith and love are all about?

MY THOUGHTS-Elizabeth Goddard is a fun author to read. When I want something entertaining, her books are what I will pick up. But they aren't just for light reading. You also learn lessons as you follow the characters through their lives. And Love on the Slopes is exactly one of those stories.

Shannon is one fighter for a lady. I enjoyed getting to know her and how she works but also how she grows from diva to volunteer helper. It is funny to see her realize what her goals are in life and who she really is. And it also gets you thinking about who you are as a person and what you really want out of life. Hudson is your perfect handsome guy but he has baggage. He feels responsible for something that happened in the past and doesn't trust himself to take care of Shannon. In his eyes he lets everyone down in the end. Shannon is also dealing with a father who is authoritative. In the end he turns out okay but I had a very hard time with him at first.

I like how the romance is sweet and not rushed. They have known each other forever but never realized how they felt about the other one. The weather outside makes me feel like I should be skiing:) But this is definitely a nice book to curl up with along with a cup of coffee. You can't go wrong with a book from Elizabeth! So make sure to pick up Love on the Slopes when it releases next month!

Follow Elizabeth Goddard on all her social media sites as well! You never know when you might be the first to hear the news of an upcoming book:)

HGG Sinful Colors Nail Polish #Giveaway!!

Hey everyone, remember the review I did of the Sinful Colors nail polish last month? Well, I actually received four bottles for myself and I saved two of them for a giveaway!! So, now one of my readers will have the chance to win two bottles of sinful Colors Nail polish for themselves. These make great gifts for the teenager who loves to play with polish. And especially great for the woman who likes flair!

For my giveaway I pulled to the side Got A Blush On You and Cold Leather. One is part of the Leather Luxe Series and the other one is part of the Crystal Crushes Series. My favorite from the outside of the bottle? The Got A Blush On You. I just love the glitter aspect, even though it can be a bit difficult to remove from your nails. I don't wear it often but I have done it enough to tell you, the glitter stuff is a pain to get off:)

Neither of these bottles has been opened and they will both be shipped to one winner. I am hosting the giveaway, and thus the fulfillment will be on me. Sorry to say it but that does mean US only. This giveaway will end 1/6/14 and winner will be chosen through Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen. Have fun and enjoy!!

Adrenaline Pumping Zip-Line Tours

If you have been thinking about taking a trip to the Centennial state you need to understand what excitement and fun is available for you. You are not the kind of person to just sit around and play solitaire (with real cards, no less)! No, you are a physically active, adventure seeking person! You want thrills; you want an adrenaline rush; you want to see the beauty of the Centennial state! Okay, so check out the following activities and tours in Colorado to plan the best itinerary possible.

Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah

You can combine the adrenaline rush you crave with the beautiful, lush, mountain scenery by taking a zip-line tour. Zip lines have been around for over 200 years; bet ya didn’t think they have been around that long, right? It’s true! The first documented zip-line or incline string appeared in the 1700’s and the first documented death occurred in 1739. But, let’s not go there. Back to fully functioning, extremely safe zip-lines. The technology found in zip-lines is high-tech and calibrated perfectly.

Amazing Ride

When you think about an exciting zip-line it doesn’t include two miles of line, right? No, it includes 20 different lines with the longest being over 1000 feet long. The courses are carefully crafted to include amazing platforms and beautiful natural terrain launches and landings. Besides the gorgeous scenery, you can also enjoy the excitement of reaching speeds of up to 55 miles per hour. Can you say adrenaline rush?

Additional Activities

While you are in the midst of your zip-line adventure, you can experience other activities during your tours in Colorado. While you are between zip-line rides, you can hike the trails found among the beautiful Colorado mountains. Most of the trails are easy paced and you can also learn about the local history and terrain. While on your vacation you can experience all the active, adrenaline pumping excitement that you thrive on. You won’t break the bank either by cashing in on this activity; it is extremely reasonable and easy on your wallet. You can save the relaxing, solitaire playing vacations for when you hit 90 years old.

Occasions You May Want to Use a Limousine

There are some days that are special. Sometimes a special day can occur because something good happened, and other times it can occur because of the person that you may be interacting with. Whatever the reason that a day is particularly special, if you are interested in making a memory that will last a lifetime, you may want to consider using a limousine. To learn more about limousines, you should contact your local limousine service, such as Premier Limousine Inc., for more information.

If you would like to learn about some of the common events and occasions that people use limousines for, you should read this short article for more information. If there is a special birthday or family event occurring in your circle of family or friends, you may have the perfect occasion for a limousine. Because limousines are an extravagant experience, using a limousine can add to the mystique and flavor of any event. If you want to make a birthday as special as it can be, you may want to consider using a limousine.

Weddings are another wonderful time to use a limousine. It can be very special for a couple and close family members involved to ride in a limousine on their wedding day. Another reason that a limousine is especially useful is that it will prevent people at the wedding celebration from doing silly things to the couple’s car. Although many of the crazy things that are done to a bride and groom’s car are done in fun, they can still be frustrating to have to clean up, and can cause permanent damage depending on what is done. If there is a wedding coming up in your family and you do not want to have to worry about this, it may be wise for you to hire a limousine for the wedding night.

Another reason why you may want to hire a limousine is that it can prevent people from having problems with alcohol and driving. If there are people in your party who like to drink, then you can benefit from having a limousine service because everyone can participate in the festivities. To get a limousine for your special event, you should contact your local limousine service, such as Premier Limousine Inc., to schedule a rental today.

Book #Review of Stones for Bread by Christa Parrish!!

A solitary artisan. A legacy of bread-baking. And one secret that could collapse her entire identity.

Liesl McNamara’s life can be described in one word: bread.  From her earliest memory, her mother and grandmother passed down the mystery of baking and the importance of this deceptively simple food. And now, as the owner of Wild Rise bake house, Liesl spends every day up to her elbows in dough, nourishing and perfecting her craft.
But the simple life she has cultivated is becoming quite complicated. Her head baker brings his troubled grandson into the bakeshop as an apprentice. Her waitress submits her recipes to a popular cable cooking show. And the man who delivers her flour – a single father with strange culinary habits – seems determined to win Liesl’s affection.
When Wild Rise is featured on television, her quiet existence appears a thing of the past. And then a phone call from a woman claiming to be her half-sister forces Liesl to confront long-hidden secrets in her family’s past. With her precious heritage crumbling around her, the baker must make a choice: allow herself to be buried in detachment and remorse, or take a leap of faith into a new life.

MY THOUGHTS-Don't you just love a book that includes recipes in it? I know I sure do! So when this one came in, I delved right into it. Of course, I happened to flip to the recipes first:) The book itself was hard to finish. I liked the plot and all but it was slow to get into. The characters were well written and that was the only reason I completed the book. I wanted to see what would happen between Leisl and the men in her life. I think a lot of my problem was the going back and forth between present day and what happened years ago. Whatever it was, please don't just listen to what I say and don't buy the book. I did enjoy it later and it was interesting to see how everything played out. Just a little slow to start. Will definitely be trying some of these recipes:) I could just smell the bread baking!

For Those Who Can’t Have Lasik, There’s PRK

If you are not a good candidate for Lasik, you might be a candidate for something called PRK at Hoopes Vision or some other place that performs the procedure. Your eyesight is important to you, and if you are tired of going to see 3D movies and having to wear two pairs of glasses, you might be looking into any way possible to get rid of your normal eyewear.
Photorefractive Keratectomy
You can probably deconstruct the words above to figure out a little bit about PRK, but the easy version is that PRK reshapes the cornea. This type of procedure was actually pioneered before Lasik surgery, and it involves removing a part of the cornea rather than making a flap. This means that recovery time may be longer than that for Lasik. However, if you are not a candidate for Lasik, comparing the two procedures doesn’t really help you – other than to give you an idea of what others are going through versus what you should expect.
Eyewear
Even if you like to wear eyewear, there are times when it is inconvenient, especially if you are physically active and fashion conscious. There have been some people who have worn goggles in professional sports like basketball, but if you choose to wear goggles, you can be sure that you will get some sarcastic comments about them. You might not be able to see without them, but no one really cares about that. If the goggles get broken, you may be done for the evening. If they fall down, you will be out for a play.
Glasses and Passes
While the old adage that men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses is changing, choosing to get PRK at Hoopes Vision or any other qualified eye doctor’s office may be one of the best decisions you have ever made. Your face will feel lighter, and going to 3D movies will only require that you wear the glasses to see the images coming out of the screen. For sports, you will be able to play without eyewear and without the sarcastic comments.

Modular Room Design Can Save Time and Money

When you need a clean room, chances are you think of having to get someone to design and then build it. However, there are companies like the one at www.aesclean.com that have already designed and built the clean room. All that the room needs is a place to sit. For a company that needs a clean room, this type of design is great because all you have to do is choose the design that works for you.

Modular Design

Modular building isn’t anything new. Disney’s Contemporary Resort Hotel, which opened with the Magic Kingdom in Florida on October 1, 1971, was designed so that the rooms could be inserted into the steel framework. The rooms were hauled in by truck and lifted by a crane. They were then inserted into the building with everything already in them including beds, pictures, and lamps.
With a modular clean room design, the rooms are already designed, and the client gets to choose from what is available. This eliminates all of the time that designing would normally take. What this means for you is that if there are two different rooms that you like some features on one and other features on another, you can put the two rooms together. It is kind of like playing with Legos, you put the pieces together in a design that works for your purposes.

Decision Makers

The leadership of your company is probably smart enough to put together a team that will look at the specifications of what is needed for the clean room as well as the budget. Any good committee will have people from the science side and the money side to make sure that the room gets built according to the needs of the scientists working in it and still not go over budget.

With a company like the one at www.aesclean.com, you will be able to get everything that your particular clean room needs at a price that will make the bean counters happy. When all is said and done, you will find that you have made the right choice to go with a modular building option.

Fun Interview with Bruce Judisch + Book #Giveaway!!

Alrighty readers! Today I have a fun opportunity for you all. I have author Bruce Judisch here who offered to do an interview but he has also offered to host a giveaway for one of his books. I personally love finding new authors and have stumbled upon many a new favorite after one of these interviews:) So, get ready and maybe you will find out something new!

Thank you for being with us today, Bruce!!
Thanks so much for hosting me. This is going to be fun!

How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
Ever since my wife, Jeannie, told me I should become one. Okay, maybe a little more detail than that. J  I was teaching a course through the Old Testament Minor Prophets, and when I researched and developed the study on Jonah, I was struck by how unique both he and the book were compared to the other prophets. I made the comment during the introduction to the study, “You know, if I were ever to write a novel, it would be about Jonah.” Jeannie, have sat in the class, gave me a gentle elbow-in-the-ribs afterward and said, “Well…?” So, on the airplane returning from a business trip to DC in 2002, I typed the first lines of what would become “A Prophet’s Tale.”  Four novels later, I’m still typing.

Can you tell me a little bit about your book?
With your permission, I’d like to tie my most recent two books together—not intending a thinly veiled marketing ploy, but because they are so closely tied together in subject and in genre. Katia is the prequel to For Maria, and they both have contemporary and historical storylines.

Katia tells the story of Madeline “Maddy” McAllister, a young American journalism exchange student in Berlin, Germany, who is retained to write the memoirs of Katia Mahler, a 60-year-old invalid who grew up in post-WWII East Berlin. In short, Maddy matures from a self-absorbed, cell phone-addicted, sorority girl to a young woman with a broader appreciation for her freedom and her faith gained through Katia’s story. There is, I believe, a good balance of poignancy, romance, action, and humor throughout the tale. The climactic event was the fall of the Berlin Wall in November, 1989, which I was privileged to witness firsthand.

For Maria continues Maddy’s (now Madeline) story as a young mother and wife, as she obsesses with finding two women—twin infants when briefly introduced in Katia—lost during WWII.  Her reasons are very personal as well as professional. The historical storyline focuses on the “Kindertransport,” in which, from 1934-1945, thousands of displaced Jewish (and other) children were rescued from the hands of the Nazis and placed in foster care overseas awaiting reuniting with their parents at the conclusion of the war. Needless to say, most of those reunions never took place. Although it sounds heavy—and in places it is—it offers a satisfying conclusion. For Maria been described as Sarah’s Key, but with hope.

When a reader gets done with your book, what do you want them to come away with?
With Katia, the tagline pretty much says it all: “Seek the truth, embrace the pain, cherish the freedom.” I’ll leave that to our readers’ imaginations.
With For Maria, the message is one of faith and perseverance in overcoming loss. It also addresses the importance of communication and priorities in relationships.

Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
Being retired military, my family had the joy of living in Alaska, England, Crete, and Germany.  Last year Jeannie and I were fortunate enough to celebrate our 40th anniversary in Sydney, Australia. So, although our overseas bucket list still has a couple of unlined-through entries, what we’d love to do is experience sights in the U.S. that we’ve not yet had a chance to see, or would love to revisit:  New England in the autumn, the incredible national parks of the West, the mystery and beauty of the Southern plantations.  Gee, how much time do you have?  J

If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
#1  Jeannie. I can’t recall a completely fulfilling dining experience without her at the table. And if the meal were only with choice #2, I’d spend the whole time wishing she was there to share it.
#2  At the risk of sound melodramatic, my mother. She passed away unexpectedly when I was 12 years old. There’s so much I’d like to share with her—and so much she could tell Jeannie.

What one event would you love to be at? Historical or future?
I don’t want to see too far down the road, so it would have to be a past event. I think I’d like to be in the School Book Depository building at Dealey Plaza at 12:29 pm, November 22, 1963, so I could push Lee Harvey Oswald out the window. I know … but still …

Do you have a favorite hobby?
Assuming you mean aside from writing, I love to camp—but only when I can have an open campfire (safely, of course).  Without one of those, you’re wasting your time.

Is there something about you most people wouldn't know?
How I feel about open campfires. Well, I guess the “most people wouldn’t know” part doesn’t apply anymore, does it?  J

Do you have any suggestions for the aspiring writer?
Take your time. Set your goals. Learn the craft. Research the industry. Do it right. I didn’t. I paid the price so you don’t have to.

Any last thoughts for your readers?
Sure! … … Oh! You want me to write them down … hold on a sec … okay:
Readers:  Expect a lot from your authors.  You shell out hard-earned money, invest hours of your life that you’ll never get back, and entrust tender emotions and lasting impressions to us. We seriously owe you for the honor.
Authors:  Read the above. Deliver, or die trying.

And how can they connect with you?
I’m at www.brucejudisch.com.  You can get autographed copies of my books way cheaper than the cover price by contacting me via my website. Actually, I’d love to hear from you, book order or not!  J

Thanks so much for being a guest here today!
Thanks again for having me, Charity. I was right:  it’s been fun.

THE GIVEAWAY-I have to tell you, these books sound really interesting. I love my favorite styles and genres but every once in a while you find one that sticks out. And that is what happened when Bruce wrote me about his novels. They sound full of life and soo very neat. I am hoping to get my hands on a copy soon. Maybe when Barbour releases them as a collection in May of 2014? The front cover of this looks lovely as well.

So, anyone interested in a copy of Katia and For Maria? One winner will receive a copy of each book! The giveaway is going to be different and not done through Rafflecopter. It is going to be a basic comment to enter:) Sometimes I just love going back to the basics. LOL! This giveaway will end 12/21. Trying to get this finished before Christmas as I know everyone will be busy around then. Okay, okay. I know we are all busy now:) US ONLY!!

TO ENTER-LEAVE A COMMENT ANSWERING THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:

What do you expect most from reading fiction?

Eliminate the Hidden Costs of Presenteeism

One of the hidden costs that companies have a hard time quantifying is that of stress and illness in the workforce. While many companies can tell you exactly how many sick days employees have used and what they cost in terms of dollars, what they cannot tell you is how many days employees showed up ill and were less productive than they could have been. To increase productivity and the health of their human resources, many companies have turned to sites like heartmath.com. Corporate wellness programs do more than just keep people healthy. They also increase productivity across the board.

Presenteeism

Going to work when you are ill is called presenteeism. You aren’t absent. You are still getting paid. It doesn’t cost any sick days if you have them, but you really aren’t doing the work with the efficiency and excellence that you normally would. Presenteeism is a problem for employers because not only does it cost in terms of a lack of productivity – you are getting your normal pay while the company is getting less than 100% of the work – but it also costs in terms of the health of others in the organization. While you spread the germs, your coworkers get ill, and your employer loses their productivity.

Blaming Who?

Of course, no one can blame an employee who doesn’t have any sick leave for going into work ill, especially if it will count against him or her when it comes time to evaluate performance or if it will cost that person his or her job. In this economy, it is hard to be out for even a day. Losing a job will put some people on the street.

Solutions

The forward thinking company provides employees with help and knowledge to change their behaviors. By incorporating a corporate health program like those offered by companies like heartmath.com, every company can help improve the productivity of the entire workforce. The best of the programs increase employee morale and reduce stress. That is good for everyone involved: employee, business, and corporate wellness website. Of course, providing sick leave doesn’t hurt anyone either.

Wilderness Peril by Elizabeth Goddard. Excellent Suspense Novel!!

Hey everyone! As I am sure many of you know, I love a good mystery. One that makes you scratch your head and wonder how it will play out, and keep you turning the pages until the end! Well, Wilderness Peril is exactly that type of book. And Elizabeth Goddard sure know how to keep readers enthralled until the end. I didn't put it down from the first page to the last:)

ON THIN ICE

Run off the road and left for dead, Shay Ridiker's only hope for surviving the frozen claws of the wilderness is pilot Rick Savage. The beautiful airplane mechanic came to Alaska expecting a routine repo, but a missing coworker and a crippled plane are just the tip of the iceberg. Now held captive by ruthless killers at a derelict gold mine, Shay needs Rick's protection more than ever. But Rick has shadows that follow him into the land of the midnight sun. With gunmen at their backs, can he be all Shay needs—a haven…and a hero?

As you can see, there is a spunky female character and a handsome but surly hero. Shay is an airplane mechanic and is definitely strong. But you also see a vulnerable side to her, especially around heights. And Rick has his very obvious problems. Not the least of which was when he pulled a gun on Shay. Not telling you any more than that but it is a part I liked. It shows him as being very human.

The two of them are on their way to pick up an airplane with Rick's brother Aiden, when strange things start happening. Including being run off the road and left for dead. Shay is saved only by Rick's quick thinking and has to struggle with her feelings for him. After all, who wants to like a guy who pulls a gun on you? At the same time, she can't resist the strength he exudes nor the quiet calm with which he protects her. Rick also finds himself thinking about Shay and wanting more and more to be the one she relies on and trusts. But he knows that he isn't a whole man. The war can change a person a lot and it has done so to him. Is he worth her sticking her neck out for? And is she worth opening up to?

The suspense part of this is well done. I kept trying to figure out what Kemp was doing and why he needed them both. You slowly figure out parts but Mr's Goddard makes sure you don't get the whole picture until the end. Very well written and I could almost feel the terror as Shay strive to survive, as well as Rick doing his best to protect her. I do have to say, there was one part I was ready to scream. It is near the end and Rick makes a decision that I couldn't believe he made. I knew why he did but still, it was unbelievable!

Anyhow, totally loved this book and can't wait for the next book from Elizabeth Goddard! If you are looking for a quick suspense read that keeps you up into the night to finish, this is the one for you:)  Make sure to follow Elizabeth Goddard on Facebook and check out her website while you are at it. Just might find something to buy as a gift:)) She also has a newsletter available from her site as well. Loved it Beth!!

Maintain the Tools You Need for the Lawn

Your lawn mower is an important part of getting your yard to look awesome. If it is not running or it is not running right, not only will your yard suffer, but your reputation with your neighbors will suffer. You may even get a notice or fine from the homeowner’s association. That’s no good. Rather than going through all of that bother, you should make sure that you take your lawn mower in for regular maintenance. Places like AA Power Equipment can make sure that the engine has no flaws, and that will mean less downtime for you when it comes to taking care of your garden.

Other Tools

Of course, your lawn mower probably isn’t the only tool you use in your yard. You will want to make sure that your clippers for hedges and trees are sharp and ready to go before the winter ends. That way you can get a jump on spring – otherwise, it may creep up on you.
If you are lucky, you have a mower that will mulch clippings and leaves back into the yard. Otherwise, you will want a rake and several trash bags. In the fall, you can get those trash bags that look like jack-o-lanterns for a festive touch.

Your Lawn

When you are taking care of your lawn, you will want to make sure that you cut it a little longer than what you may have done previously. Longer grass can survive with less water. Less water is good for the environment and for your wallet. It will also look greener and therefore, lusher.

Power Tools

That brings us full circle to making sure that you get your lawn mower taken care of. Too many people wait until something goes wrong before they realize that a lawn mower is a machine like a car or anything else that needs regular maintenance. Businesses like AA PowerEquipment can provide those services as well as repair when it is needed. That will make all of your yard work easier to deal with, and your neighbors will be jealous of your beautiful lawn.

HGG Beamz Music by Flo!

How many of you like playing music? But how many of us can't play music? I am able to play some music with violin or keyboard but not the way I would like to. Well, today I want to introduce to you the Beamz by Flo Player. And this my friends, will help you be able to play music:) And in a way you have never imagined before. This actually allows you to play songs, different instruments and in a very neat way. Check out my videos and pictures below for my thoughts. It is a really neat product and for anyone who is looking for a great gift, this would top my list. I already have plans in mind for this one:)

Here it is before setup.

No disk is needed to install, just download from the internet. That is one of the major things I like about this program. No disks to keep track of and no worrying about losing them someday. Just download from the Beamz website.

Download the Songs. You do the same with the songs, just download them from the website.

And getting setup.

And finally, all ready to go!

This is a clip of me playing around with it. As you can see, it is easy to swap instruments, play with the songs, and actually playing the music is quite easy. Volume is easily controlled from the computer or the device. The amazing thing with this is the laser beams. I absolutely love this!! You are playing lasers! So in my opinion, the Beamz by Flo would make an excellent gift but probably for ages 18 and up. The kids enjoyed playing with it but they didn't really understand what they were doing. Great little toy!
