The Wishing Season by Denise Hunter

She daydreams of whipping up sauces and soufflés in her own restaurant. His heart is set on helping foster children. Both dreams are at stake. So are their hearts.
With grand plans to open her own bed & breakfast in Chapel Springs, PJ McKinley can't afford the most crucial part: the brick and mortar. But when the owner of a local historic home announces a contest and promises her property to the worthiest candidate, PJ makes a fervent wish and tosses her name into the hat.
Cole Evans is cool, confident, and successful, but he'll never forget his roots. He's thankful for how far he's come and knows his life could have turned out drastically different. If he can win the stately old mansion, he'll turn it into a home for children aging out of the foster system.
When the eccentric house owner narrows the entries down to only two applicants, she extends the contest, giving PJ and Cole one year to prove which one of them can make the best use of her beloved home. As the pair competes in close proximity, something deeper than rivalry sparks between PJ and Cole. And in this battle, they're likely to lose their hearts.
About the Author
Bestselling novelist Denise Hunter has received the Holt Medallion Award, Reader's Choice Award, Foreword Book of the Year Award, and is a RITA finalist. She lives in Indiana with her husband and their three sons.

MY REVIEW-During the reading of this book here I found myself falling in love with the people inside. Denise Hunter pens a novel that has you connecting with the characters in a way you don't often see in fiction books. I have been blessed to be able to read all the other installments in this series so I found it enjoyable to catch up with Jade, Daniel, Madison and Beckett. I just love these people!! But I slowly realized while I was devouring this one that PJ was dearest to my heart. I felt like she could be me at times in how she responded or her emotions. She is such a sweetheart and yet feels so inferior to others. And don't get me started on Cole;D

The book starts with PJ at a rental when this strange man breaks in and she knocks him over the head. Needless to say she knocks him out. And as you might have guessed, the person she renders unconscious would be Cole Evans. An elderly woman in the town of Chapel Springs is giving away her ancestral home to a worthy candidate and both PJ and Cole want the home. PJ wants to open a bed and breakfast with a fancy restaurant and Cole would like to start an in-between house for orphans and teenagers who are trying to save and earn money as they start a new life. This is a subject near and dear to his heart as Cole was in an orphanage since he was little. My hear really broke for him and what he went through. It colors his whole life as an adult and how he views his own self-worth.

PJ and Cole immediately go at each other and the sparks fly like we often see with a book from Denise Hunter. One of the things I love with her books is the lessons found therein. PJ has had a rough time of it and feels like a loser. She thinks everyone sees her as not able to make good choices, including in her love life. Yes, she has made some bad choices, but they weren't entirely her fault. We see as Cole discovers his own worth and that he doesn't have to save everybody to make up for his failures in the past. Oh, and he is a good hunky hero that you love to read about. Protector, caring and kind he makes your heart swoon. Needless to say, I found myself crying, laughing and totally caring for these people. You hate having a book like this end and I cannot wait for the next one!

Safety While Traveling This Holiday Season. #MaceBrandMoms @MaceBrand

We often travel together as a family. But there are times when the four girls take trips, those are the ones I want to talk about today. With four women traveling alone there are many times we talk about safety and how to approach a situation that may arise. This could include anything from a vehicle breaking down on the side of the road to going into a restaurant late at night in the dark. Dealing with strangers is our main caution. Not that we worry a lot, but that is where we take the main steps to ensure safety.

One of our favorite safety measures is a weapon. And I don't mean that as in a gun:) We all carry pocket knives but the item I prefer above all others would be my Mace Brand pepper spray. If you have never tried using this before, I would urge you to check it out. As a woman who goes places alone, I want to make sure I am ready for the possibility of someone confronting me. Mace Brand spray gives me the feeling of knowing that I can stand up for myself and take on anyone who approaches. And no, I don't mean being stupid and having no fear, but that calm assurance of being able to take care of myself and those with me.

Now, why am I bringing this up?? Mace Brand pepper spray is the exact perfect size to be a stocking stuffer!! I have my own personal one that I carry in my purse everywhere but I am serious when I tell you, buy one of these for every woman you know!!! There is no expense to be spared dealing with safety and this gives women that assurance that they can deal with a problem. Be safe this holiday season!! Use Mace Brand pepper spray!

Fun and Entertaining Apps From Kids Academy! #MomBuzz

prekkindergarten

This app here was recently updated and in my opinion, it was definitely for the better! The graphics seem much more in detail and highly expressive and the books that are available really grab the attention of your youngster. There is music that makes it fun and interesting. I have heard some of these apps that would make a parent want to pull their hair out or turn the volume down but this one isn't like that at all. This is definitely an app you want to download on your iPad before your next road trip;)

Get Preschool & Kindergarten Books, Songs & Early Reading Games App on iTunes

montessori

I was very pleasantly surprised by how well this learning app worked for teaching the little ones. Many times children don't want to sit down and do school. But what happens when it is fun?? They tend to sit down and play for a while, never realizing they are being taught! This app teaches the alphabet and numbers as well as spelling. They trace the numbers to fill the jar with fireflies, touch cats, bees and alligators to learn sounds and then trace letters in lower and upper case. Fun and entertaining, they won't even know they are doing school!!

2014 Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide Curtain and Bath Outlet

2014 ULTIMATE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE
CURTAIN AND BATH OUTLET

Hi all!! It is pretty warm here and unbelievable for this time of year. We have been super busy but I have a few reviews to get done here before Christmas hits:) Anyone else ready?? Today I have a gift that would be great for those moving to a new home, someone who likes to decorate, or maybe even newlyweds. Curtain and Bath Outlet is one of those places I could shop at for hours. Thankfully I was given a list of items I could choose from or I would have never been able to decide on my review item.

I chose the Portland Insulated Panel in Navy. This is the grommet type so you put the curtain rod through it. The navy is a nice color that isn't quite a navy blue but still serviceable. These are very sturdy panels and the set brightened up the room considerably. I like how the panels are insulated, which definitely helps this time of year. Check out the pictures below and see how they look!

The old set of curtains. A drab brown color that darkened the room.

The grommet section at the top

Hanging Up

Trixie Making Sure it Hangs Right:)

As you can see, they turned out pretty good. These are quick and easy to hang, sturdy and insulated, and the color goes well in the girls room. I will definitely be keeping Curtain and Bath Outlet in mind for any future purchases.

WHO ARE THESE FOR??
As I mentioned above, this type of gift would be great for newlyweds, someone who likes decorating or the person who is moving to a new home and wants a new look. Keep in mind though that this company doesn't do just curtains, they also do bathroom sets, bedding, rugs, etc. Excellent for just about anybody!!

Holiday Help with CampusBookRentals!

Hey everyone, only a few more days here before Christmas but I wanted to let you all know about something real quick. If any of you are looking for a perfect gift for the high school or college student, this is a place I want to share with you. A gift card to CampusBookRentals.com would be absolutely perfect for a student. Not only a way to cut down on their expenses for school but also purchasing from a company that donates a percentage to Operation Smile. This is definitely a win-win situation.

If you are a regular on my blog, you all will know how much I appreciate a company like this one here. If you are a new follower, or you haven't seen my updates about them, let me re-cap a little bit about CampusBookRentals. How much do you think a student spends in a semester on textbooks? I didn't think it was that much until my brother started attending a community college. Needless to say, the prices are high and then the person is stuck with those books that they may never use again.
That is where RentBack comes in handy! These are sister companies and you have the options of renting textbooks at a reduced rate and then when you are done with the book, renting it back to another person! I am totally in love with this idea! There is free shipping both ways, you get 40-90% off bookstore prices, highlight in the textbooks and even flexible renting periods. I am telling you, if you know of a student who is trying to save money, please tell them about this company!

The other reason I like CampusBookRentals(I am sure you are all going, what?? Another reason to love this great place??) is that when you rent from them, they donate a portion to Operation Smile. Again, I can't say enough about this place. Great values, glowing testimonies all over the internet and a way that helps save money. So hey, tell someone about it today!!

Fun Learning App Called Splash Math! #FreeMathApp #MomBuzz

Splash Math Grades 1 to 5 app is a collection of fun and interactive math problems aligned to Common Core Standards. The app reinforces math concepts with self-paced and adaptive practice anytime, anywhere (works on iPad, laptops and desktops).

MY REVIEW-How many of you have trouble getting your young ones interested in  learning? I remember when I was little, and even now as an adult, math was the subject I hated. I could tolerate language arts and spelling, history and science were my favorites but math I was never good at and I felt like I failed miserably. You know how it is, one minute of trying to figure out a math problem turns into 10 minutes because everyone is staring at you! If I had been able to use this app here, I might have looked at math a little differently:) Who says school has to be boring?? It definitely isn't with this app! The characters are fun and entertaining for children to interact with. Games make it feel like you aren't doing school yet at the same time they are learning important math concepts. You can't get any better than that. Great for a home-schooling family or someone who may need a bit of extra help in their learning. This is for grades 1 through 5 so you have a range of different problems. Excellent program!!

Prequel to the successful Splash Math Series Grades 1 to 5 - Splash Math Kindergarten app allows kids to get started with Math practice in fun way. Ideal for kids 3-6 years in age, it’s a superb math game for kids in preschool and kindergarten.

MY REVIEW-This app is a little different than the other one I reviewed. It is for preschool or kindergarten aged children. Still super fun and I love how they have games which interest the child into learning and they don't even realize it! I also like that you can have separate accounts if you have more than one child doing the same program. They continue on their own level and you don't have to worry about messing up your other child's progress. Again, great for the family who teaches at home or for those getting their children ready for school. Let them have fun and enjoy!

2014 Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide with Crazy Cups Coffee!

2014 Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide
Crazy Cups K-Cups

This company here is one that I thoroughly enjoyed getting to review. I am a huge coffee fan. I love it flavored, with cream and sugar, iced, hot, pretty much any way you can make it. But one of my favorites ways to have a cup of java is flavored. I like trying new coffees that have a delicious aroma and tingle the taste buds. Needless to say when I saw my sampler from Crazy Cups I about hit the roof!! Look at this K-Cup flavor galore sampler!

The cups are a tad bit bigger than the normal size so I had a little bit of trouble getting it into my brewer. It wasn't anything major, just had to make sure the cup was punctured at the bottom as it kept pushing the piece out that makes the hole in the side. As you can see from the pictures, there was a vast array of flavors included in here, along with a few hot cocoa flavors.

My absolute favorite out of them all was the Peppermint Chocolate Mocha. I took this and made iced coffee out of it like I normally get at the coffee shop. Here it is brewing into my cup and then check out the finished product at the bottom:)

So as you can see, I am totally in love with this crazy coffee place. I have been slowly trying out all the flavors and making them last as long as possible. One other thing I like about Crazy Cups is that all their single serve products are recyclable. Loving my coffee!!

WHO IS THIS FOR??
This would be a great gift for anyone who loves coffee and owns a K-Cup maker. I don't own any of the fancy ones but I have the maker that does regular ground coffee and the K-Cup. If you don't know what flavor your hubby drinks, or if your roommate likes hot cocoa, definitely look into purchasing the sampler! Great for church or school offices, etc.

WHERE TO PURCHASE??
These are available to purchase off the Crazy Cups website as well as Amazon. Check them out!!

2014 Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide PenGems #Review & #Giveaway! #PENGEMS

2014 ULTIMATE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE

PENGEMS WRITING DEVICES

As someone who writes almost every day, I am constantly watching for new writing utensils, snazzy pens, etc. You have to admit, some of the pencils and pens out there are just plain boring! Who wants to pick up a pen that is just a black ole plastic pen?? Not me! I prefer a pen such as this one here. PenGems makes pens stylish and lasting. You can't go wrong with one of these babies!

Now I have reviewed PenGems before and thoroughly enjoyed them. This time I was sent two different colors, and yes, one was kept as a gift:) I used one for my review but the only difference between the one that I used and the one I kept is that one is a stylus. This one I reviewed here is not the stylus. I did take pics of the other one so you can see it. For some reason in the pictures it kept showing up almost blue instead of purple. But this is a very rich shade of purple.

PenGems makes a pen that urges you to carry it around. It literally jumps up to be thrown in your purse, kept in your datebook, stashed in your writing desk or even used for writing school assignments or reports! Never again feel like you have to carry around a dull or plain pen.

The sparkle this one brings lights up your purse. I absolutely love the diamonds inside the pen. The gem on the top is cute but it is the ones inside that I adore. They really do make it sparkle. Bright and shiny;) The pen itself is a good quality pen and I am still using the ones I was sent earlier this year. They work excellent and you can also buy the ink refills so your pen sticks around even longer. This isn't one you get done with and throw away. It is an investment if you think of it that way.

Personally this is probably my favorite pen that I own. Cute and stylish, works well and refillable, you can't go wrong. And my dear friends, one of you will win your very own set of PenGems!! You get to choose color and style so you could keep one for yourself and give one as a gift, or you could keep both of them:) These would really make excellent gifts for someone who uses a pen all the time.

WHO IS THIS FOR??
This would be great first of all as a stocking stuffer. Almost everyone uses pens and these stick right down in a stocking quite well:) The other person I would give this to is anyone who writes every week. This could be a student, mother, business woman, or even a man. The colors aren't all feminine and I know a guy or two who would love one of these:)

THE GIVEAWAY!

One winner will receive a set of two PenGems. You get to decide the color and the style. So if you want one stylus and one pen you are free to do that. Or if you want two pens, you can do that as well. The giveaway will end 1/3/15 and winner will be chosen through Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be picked. USA ONLY!

Songs in the Key of Happy From the Goodman Revival Trio! W/#Giveaway #FCblogger

I received a copy of this CD in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received and all thoughts are 100% mine. This post may contain affiliate links.

Goodman Revival may be a newly-formed trio, but each of its members is a seasoned Christian music veteran. Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes and Johnny Minick have joined together to perform and record, capturing the musical styles and heritage that have endeared them to countless people around the world.

Known for their legacy as part of the legendary Happy Goodman Family, in addition to their own national awards and familiarity among the Gaither HOMECOMING family of artists, these three individuals have put their signature twist on some of gospel music’s timeless hits and Goodman classics with their recording debut, Songs In The Key Of Happy.

Track Listing:

What A Happy Time
Eyes Of Jesus
Until You’ve Known The Love
I’ll Be Alright
The Sweetest Song I Know
This Is Just What Heaven Means To Me
It Happened
Settle The Score
Who Am I
I Don’t Want To Get Adjusted
I Hold A Clear Title To A Mansion
I Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey
Look For Me

MY REVIEW-Do any of you remember listening to the Happy Goodman family group from way back? I wasn't around when they were singing obviously, but I have heard their music and listened to their songs for a bit now. I enjoy some good rousing southern Gospel music that makes you think of the old days. That is exactly what this new cd here, Songs in the Key of Happy, does. I felt like I was listening to an old timey radio station:)

The trio is a new one but comprised of familiar faces. I found myself humming along to the songs and even singing with a few that I recognized. Some are toe tapping tunes while others are relaxing and comforting. I hadn't expected to enjoy the CD as much as I did as I prefer some of the newer groups I am familiar with. I was pleasantly surprised though and played the CD more than once on my trip:) It is definitely a trip down memory lane as you listen to the lyrics and harmony found on this album. I would urge you to pick this up in your local book store when it comes out in January! And if you enter, you just might win a copy here!

The CD releases January 15th but you can pre-order it online now. Make sure to check it out on the Family Christian Website.

This giveaway will end 1/1/15. Winner will be chosen through Random.org and will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen. USA ONLY! Family Christian Stores will be mailing out your prize.

Chapel Springs Revival Book #Review by Ane Mulligan

ABOUT BOOK: Everybody in the small town of Chapel Springs, Georgia, knows best friends Claire Bennett and Patsy Kowalski. It's impossible not to, what with Claire's zany antics and Patsy's self-appointed mission to keep her friend out of trouble. And trouble abounds.
During an early morning discussion at Dees 'n' Doughs bakery with their ladies group, all Chapel Springs entrepreneurs, attention is drawn to the slackened tourist trade. With their livelihoods threatened, they join forces to address the town's revitalization in hopes of drawing back the tourists. No one could have guessed the real issue needing restoration is their marriages.

Claire, a pottery artist, stumbles through life with her foot in her mouth. When she became a Christian, she thought life and her marriage would be included in the new creation part. But her thighs are just as big and her husband, Joel, is as ornery as ever. She's become nothing more than a sheet-changer, a towel-folder, a pancake-flipper. Her life is humdrum and she's tired of being taken for granted.

Patsy has plans for her empty nest, plans that include a cruise ship. However, her husband, Nathan, continues to work long hours, and he's not talking about slowing down. In fact, he's not talking much at all. She's asleep long before he comes home each night. At first she thought it was just because of tax season, but now she's not so sure. Something other than work seems to keep him late at the office every night. With the lines of communication closed, she'll have to find another way to reach him.

With their marriages as much in need of restoration as the town, Claire and Patsy embark on a mission of mishaps and miscommunication, determined to restore warmth to Chapel Springs and their lives. That is if they can convince their husbands and the town council, led by two curmudgeons who would prefer to see Chapel Springs left in the fifties and closed to traffic.

MY THOUGHTS-When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never heard of this author or this book but after reading it I was pleasantly surprised. It is a fun and entertaining book in which I found myself totally immersed. The characters are very funny and it was like a little town I would love to live in. Quaint and yet so sweet!

There are two women who are the main characters but there are a whole ton of secondary people, including the husbands. Boy these two are fun!! Claire and Patsy are best friends whose husbands are best friends. They talk about anything and everything together, as well as owning an art business together. They are the epitome of a small town friendship. I love how the women all have a morning coffee at the donut shop and chat about things in life. That is how they get the idea to spruce up Chapel Springs. But the revival doesn't just pertain to the town itself, but also to the people inside.

Patsy gets the idea her husband may be having an affair. There was something brought up here I didn't really care for but it was all done in fun and kind of humorous. One of my favorite parts is when Claire and Patsy go into the spa on a scouting trip. They are hilarious! It also bugged me that the one woman worries over her husband having an affair and yet the first time this handsome wealthy man comes to town, both married women about have a cat-fight over him. Believe me, everything turns out quite funny, but kind of irked me that they did this. Both women figure out what is going on with their husbands after a bit of worrying.

If you want a fun and amusing book to drop into, then this is one to pick up. Absolutely loved it!!

Killing Lions by John & Sam Eldredge. Must-Read for Men!! W/#Giveaway #FCblogger

Do you ever feel that boys and young men are hard to connect with? Like the things they are facing and the trials or temptations are something that you may never really understand? Especially as a female it is hard to comprehend the struggles that a young man faces in this world today. We often try to see things through their eyes and yet often fail. That is where a book like this comes in handy. It is for the young man to read for himself, and maybe even with a father figure, to discuss and see guidelines, wisdom from one father to his son and how others have handled situations that arise. I found Killing Lions to be intriguing in how it was written from the perspective of a son who is searching for answers on how to live life. He goes to his father and talks over the phone and thus this book was brought to life.

I literally had to steal this book from my dad who picked it up the minute it came in. He has a penchant for taking books that deal with issues like this for young men. After all, he has two boys himself and no matter what is learned, there is always more out there. This book covers everything a young man will encounter from the time he leaves college to getting a job, finding his true value, dating and relationships, finances, etc. This truly is a book that would be good to give any young man or even the father of a young man. It is all about helping your boys become the men they were destined to be.

This is written in a unique format. The son talks and it is written in italics and when the father speaks it is in regular type. That way you see what the father is asking, the wisdom h imparts and how he brings certain issues up. This is all done in a loving but honest manner. Again, this would make an awesome gift for the holidays! Purchase a copy and sign it to your son, then read and discuss it together!! There is nothing more important than how they grow up to become men.

"You're going to be okay. You're going to find your way. You are not alone."

"I believe you young men are the warrior generation that this world needs."

THE GIVEAWAY
One winner will receive their own copy of Killing Lions by John and Sam Eldredge. USA ONLY!! Giveaway ends 12/30 and winner will be chosen through Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

$1.99 each exclusively at Walgreens for Holiday 2014

I received four colors in the mail. These are from the SinfulColors holiday line and include Sugar, Sugar, Cinderella, Unwrap Me and Ice Blue.

Not only do these sound inspired by the Christmas cheer but they look it! I quickly fell in love with two of these. The Unwrap Me and Ice Blue, but the others were great as well. I felt like with these options I could easily dress up my style or leave it casual.

The thing I liked with the Unwrap Me is that it is an almost clear polish with flecks or red and green. From the bottle it looks like a black with dark red flecks.

But when you actually apply it, the color is almost clear. As you can see from the picture it looks nice like that. But, you can also add this on top of another color! I used it with two other colors, a blue and a red, and it showed up perfectly.

It is amazing how much this gives you extra room to change up your style.

These colors are rich and give the perfect holiday splash to any ensemble. Use it for a Christmas party, a date night with the hubby or even running errands around town. You will feel special and everyone who sees you will love the twinkle on your fingertips.
